Sir Harcourt Lees, 2nd Baronet
The Reverend Sir Harcourt Lees (29 November 1776 – 7 March 1852 in Blackrock, Dublin, Blackrock, near Dublin) was an Irish Cleric, clergyman and political pamphleteer on behalf of Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland. He is best known for his strongly worded pamphlets attacking Roman Catholicism. Life Harcourt Lees was the eldest son of Sir John Lees, 1st Baronet, Sir John Lees, Bt. (created 1804), by Mary, eldest daughter of Robert Cathcart of Glandusk, Ayrshire. He graduated Bachelor of Arts, B.A. at Trinity College, Cambridge, Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1799, and proceeded Master of Arts (Oxbridge), M.A. in 1802. Killanny
The parish of Killanny ({{irish place name, Cill Éanna) lies in both County Louth and County Monaghan, Monaghan and is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Clogher, Diocese of Clogher. It is named after Enda of Aran, Saint Enda of Aran, known by the diminutive Éanna. The civil parish consists of 31 townland in County Monaghan and 11 in County Louth. The townland of Killany, which can also be spelled Killanny or Killaney, lies within County Louth, and contains the old St. Ultan's Killanny Parish church and graveyard. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. William Nassau Lees
William Nassau Lees (1825–1889) was a British Army officer in India, known as an orientalist. Life The fourth son of Sir Harcourt Lees, Bart., he was born on 26 February 1825, and educated at Nut Grove and at Trinity College, Dublin, but took no degree. He was appointed to a Bengal cadetship in 1846, and was posted to the 42nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry as ensign in March 1846. He became lieutenant in July 1853, captain in September 1858, major in June 1865, lieutenant-colonel in 1868, colonel in 1876, and major-general in 1885, having been placed on the supernumerary list in 1884. Lees was for some years principal of the Calcutta Madrasa, where he was also professor of law, logic, literature, and mathematics. He was secretary to Fort William College, Persian translator to the government, and government examiner in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu for all branches of the service; and for some years part proprietor of the ''Times of India''.
