Sir George Bingham, 2nd Baronet
Sir George Bingham, 2nd Baronet (c. 1625 – 1682) was an Irish politician and baronet. He was the only son of Sir Henry Bingham, 1st Baronet and his wife Catherine Byrne, daughter of John Byrne. In 1658, Bingham succeeded his father as baronet. He entered the Irish House of Commons for Castlebar in 1661, representing the constituency until 1666. Bingham was appointed High Sheriff of Mayo in 1662 and again in 1678. In 1663, he became Custos Rotulorum of Mayo. Family Bingham married firstly Anne Partiger, 1 June 1661 at St. Benet's, Paul's Wharf, London, and had a son Henry. Anne died c. 1661. Bingham married secondly Rebecca Middleton, daughter of Sir William Middleton, 2nd Baronet, and Eleanor Harris on 5 December 1661. and had a child George. Sir Henry Bingham, 1st Baronet
Sir Henry Bingham, 1st Baronet (1573 – c. 1658) was an Irish politician. Born at Milton Abbas, he was the son of Sir George Bingham, brother of Sir Richard Bingham, and his wife Cicely Martin, daughter of Robert Martin. Bingham served as captain in the Irish Army. He was nominated High Sheriff of County Galway in 1607 and High Sheriff of Mayo in 1639. He entered the Irish House of Commons in 1634, representing Castlebar in the next five years until he retired because of ill health. On 7 June 1632, Bingham was created a baronet, of Castlebar, in the County of Mayo by King Charles I of England. By 1625, he married Catherine Byrne, daughter of John Byrne, and had by her a son and a daughter. Bingham died by 1658 and was buried in Castlebar. The Irish House of Commons was the lower house of the Parliament of Ireland that existed from 1297 until 1800. The upper house was the House of Lords. The membership of the House of Commons was directly elected, but on a highly restrictive franchise, similar to the unreformed House of Commons in contemporary England and Great Britain. Catholics were disqualified from sitting in the Irish parliament from 1691, even though they comprised the vast majority of the Irish population. The Irish executive, known as the Dublin Castle administration, under the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, was not answerable to the House of Commons but to the British government. High Sheriff Of Mayo
The High Sheriff of Mayo was the British Crown's judicial representative in County Mayo, Ireland from the 16th century until 1922, when the office was abolished in the new Free State and replaced by the office of Mayo County Sheriff. The sheriff had judicial, electoral, ceremonial and administrative functions and executed High Court Writs. In 1908, an Order in Council made the Lord-Lieutenant the Sovereign's prime representative in a county and reduced the High Sheriff's precedence. However, the sheriff retained his responsibilities for the preservation of law and order in the county. The usual procedure for appointing the sheriff from 1660 onwards was that three persons were nominated at the beginning of each year from the county and the Lord Lieutenant then appointed his choice as High Sheriff for the remainder of the year. Sir Henry Bingham, 3rd Baronet (1654 – 5 July 1714) was an Irish politician and baronet. He was the eldest son Sir George Bingham, 2nd Baronet and his first wife, Anne Partiger. In 1682, he succeeded his father as baronet. Bingham was educated at the Middle Temple. From 1682 he was Custos Rotulorum of Mayo.
