Sir Charles Percy Graham-Montgomery, 6th Baronet
The Reverend Sir Charles Percy Graham-Montgomery, 6th Baronet (died 1930) was an English clergyman. He was the son of Sir Graham Graham-Montgomery, 3rd Baronet, and Alice Hope Johnstone. He was educated at Winchester and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, graduating B.A. in 1880 and M.A. in 1884. Ordained deacon in 1880, and priest in 1883, he held a succession of clerical posts, ending as the Vicar of St. John's, Taunton from 1903 until his retirement to Stobo Castle in 1915. He succeeded in the baronetcy on 4 October 1928. Family Graham-Montgomery married, firstly, Minnie Gertrude Compton Walker, daughter of Major-General Chamberlain Walker, in 1887. They had two children: Graham John Early Graham-Montgomery (18 June 1894 – 24 April 1917) and Percy Cecil Graham-Montgomery (6 September 1898 – 21 April 1915): both boys attended Sherborne School in Dorset. Sir Graham Graham-Montgomery, 3rd Baronet
Sir Graham Graham-Montgomery, 3rd Baronet, (9 July 1823 – 2 June 1901) was a Scottish baronet and member of the British House of Commons. Life Graham-Montgomery entered the House of Commons in 1852 as a member for Peeblesshire, and held the seat until 1868, when it was united with that of Selkirk. He was returned for the newly unified constituency, and held it through 1880. He was a junior Lord of the Treasury from 1866 until 1868. He was also Lord Lieutenant of Kinross-shire from 1854 until his death in 1901. Winchester College
Winchester College is a public school (fee-charging independent day and boarding school) in Winchester, Hampshire, England. It was founded by William of Wykeham in 1382 and has existed in its present location ever since. It is the oldest of the nine schools considered by the Clarendon Commission. The school is currently undergoing a transition to become co-educational and to accept day pupils, having previously been a boys' boarding school for over 600 years. Emmanuel College, Cambridge
Emmanuel College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. The college was founded in 1584 by Sir Walter Mildmay, Chancellor of the Exchequer to Elizabeth I. The site on which the college sits was once a priory for Dominican monks, and the College Hall is built on the foundations of the monastery's nave. Emmanuel is one of the 16 "old colleges", which were founded before the 17th century. Taunton
Taunton () is the county town of Somerset, England, with a 2011 population of 69,570. Its thousand-year history includes a 10th-century monastic foundation, Taunton Castle, which later became a priory. The Normans built a castle owned by the Bishops of Winchester. Parts of the inner ward house were turned into the Museum of Somerset and Somerset Military Museum. Stobo Castle
Stobo Castle is located at Stobo in the Scottish Borders, in the former county of Peeblesshire. The Manor of Stobo was originally owned by the Balfour family. It became the family seat of the Graham-Montgomery Baronets from 1767. The building of the present castle began in 1805 and was completed in 1811 under the supervision of architects Archibald and James Elliot. It is currently operated as a health spa. Royal Hampshire Regiment
The Hampshire Regiment was a line infantry regiment of the British Army, created as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881 by the amalgamation of the 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment of Foot and the 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment of Foot. The regiment existed continuously for 111 years and served in the Second Boer War, World War I and World War II. An Army Order of the 28 November 1946 stated, due to distinguished service in the Second World War, the regiment would be re-titled as the Royal Hampshire Regiment. Montgomery Baronets
There have been four baronetcies created for persons with the surname Montgomery, one in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia, one in the Baronetage of Great Britain and two in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. One creation is extant as of 2011. The Montgomery baronetcy, of Skelmorly, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia in January 1628 for Robert Montgomery. Stanhope, Peeblesshire
Stanhope is a small settlement in the Scottish Borders region. It is situated in the parish of Drumelzier in Peeblesshire, in the valley of the River Tweed. The Murray family acquired and established a Barony at Stanhope in 1634 as part of an estate that extended into Tweedsmuir. The settlement consists of a cluster of buildings by Stanhope Burn. It was the property of Sir David Murray, nephew of John Murray of Broughton who was active in the Jacobite rebellion of 1745. As a result of his participation the Murray estates at Broughton and Stanhope were confiscated (as were those other Jacobite sympathisers) and in 1761 it was still in the hands of creditors. Stanhope was sold by order of the Court of Session by deed in 1767 to a James Montgomery. Many properties on the Stanhope estate were tenanted by members of the Tweedie family with whom the Murrays had at various times fought or intermarried. Sir Basil Templer Graham-Montgomery, 5th Baronet (March 1, 1852 - October 4, 1928) was the son of Sir Graham Graham-Montgomery, 3rd Baronet Stanhope (July 9, 1823 - June 2, 1901) and Alice Hope Johnstone (1830 - December 16, 1890). He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Montgomery of Stanhope on 8 November 1902. Graham-Montgomery invented a pattern of leather webgear similar to the Sam Browne Belt that became part of the dress uniform for Rifle Regiment officers.
