Sir Charles Burton, 1st Baronet (1702 – 6 June 1775) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Burton was the Member of Parliament for Dublin City in the Irish House of Commons between 1749 and 1760.E. M. Anglo-Irish people () denotes an ethnic, social and religious grouping who are mostly the descendants and successors of the English Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). Burton Baronets
There have been two baronetcies created for persons with the surname Burton, one in the Baronetage of England and one in the Baronetage of Ireland. Both creations are extinct. The Burton Baronetcy, of Stockerston in the County of Leicester, was created in the Baronetage of England on 22 July 1622 for Sir Thomas Burton, son of John Burton of Braunston who had purchased the Stockerston Hall estate in 1580. He was knighted in Dublin in 1605. He served as High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1633. His son, the second Baronet, served the Royalist cause during the English Civil War and his estate was subsequently sequestered. Following the Restoration his son the third Baronet served as high sheriff in 1682. He sold Stockerston in 1690. The fourth and last Baronet was imprisoned for debt in 1710 and following conviction for theft in 1722 was transported. The baronetcy presumably became extinct on his death in circa 1750. Charles Lucas (16 September 17134 November 1771) was an Irish apothecary, physician and politician. He sat as Member of Parliament for Dublin City and was known as the "Irish Wilkes" because of his radical views. Early life The Lucas family were established in Ireland when Colonel Benjamin Lucas, Charles' great-uncle, was granted lands in County Clare following the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland in the early 1650s. Charles Lucas was the younger son of Benjamin Lucas of Ballingaddy, County Clare. Benjamin Lucas died about 1727, leaving £937 to his family, of which Charles was to receive £80. Having served the usual apprenticeship as an apothecary, Lucas was admitted to the Guild of St. Mary Magdalene. Apothecary For many years Lucas kept a shop in Charles Street, Dublin. He married his first wife, Anne Blundell, in 1734.
