Sir Charles Barrow, 1st Baronet
Sir Charles Barrow, 1st Baronet (1707–1789), of Hygrove, Minsterworth, Gloucestershire, was an English politician. Biography Barrow was born in 1708 at Saint Christopher in the West Indies and was the son of merchant Charles Barrow and Elizabeth Harris. He graduated from Oxford University, in 1754 with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.). He held the office of Recorder of Tewkesbury and the office of Member of Parliament (MP) for Gloucester November 1751 and 1789. He was created 1st Baronet Barrow, of Highgrove in the County of Gloucester on 22 January 1784, with a special remainder to Thomas Crawley-Boevey of Flaxley Abbey Flaxley Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery in England, now a Grade I listed manor and private residence, near the village of Flaxley in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. John Webb (died 1795)
John Webb (1730? – 4 February 1795) was an English politician. He was the son of Nicholas Webb of Norton Court, near Gloucester and was a ship's husband (an agent appointed by the owner of a ship with the authority to make repairs and attend to the equipment of the ship when in home port) for the East India Company. He was appointed sheriff of Gloucester for 1761–1762 and made mayor for 1770–1771, 1776–1777 and 1786–1787. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). A baronet is addressed as "Sir" (just as is a knight) or "Dame" in the case of a baronetess, but ranks above all knighthoods and damehoods in the order of precedence, except for the Order of the Garter, the Order of the Thistle, and the dormant Order of St Patrick.
