Sir Alexander Cairnes, 1st Baronet
Sir Alexander Cairnes, 1st Baronet (1665 – 30 October 1732) was an Irish politician and banker. Background He was the oldest son of John Cairnes of Donoghmore, co. Donegal, and his wife Jane Miller, daughter of James Miller, MD.Cokayne, George Edward (1906) Complete Baronetage'. Volume V. Exeter: W. Pollard & Co. . p. 7 His younger brother was William Cairnes. During his military service, he became friend with John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. Career Cairnes served in the British Army and took part in the Battle of Blenheim. For this, he was created a baronet, of Monaghan, in Ireland by Queen Anne of Great Britain on 6 May 1708, with a special remainder to his youngest brother Henry. In 1710, Cairnes entered the Irish House of Commons for Monaghan Borough, representing it until 1713. John Cairnes (politician)
John Cairnes was an Irish politician. He was the son of Thomas Cairnes and his wife Jane Scott, daughter of John Scott. In 1639, Cairnes was elected as Member of Parliament for Augher, representing the constituency in the Irish House of Commons until the following year. Hugh Willoughby (politician)
Sir Hugh Willoughby (fl. 1544; died 1554) was an English soldier and an early Arctic voyager. He served in the court of and fought in the Scottish campaign where he was knighted for his valour. In 1553, he was selected by a company of London merchants to lead a fleet of three vessels in search of a Northeast Passage. Willoughby and the crews of two ships died on the voyage while the third vessel , under the command of Richard Chancellor, went on to open a successful, long-lasting trading arrangement with Russia. John Montgomery (died 1733)
John Montgomery (died 1733) was an Irish MP for County Monaghan, Ireland. He was the second son of Colonel Alexander Montgomery MP for County Monaghan, of Ballyleck, County Monaghan and Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Colonel Thomas Cole of Mount Florence, County Fermanagh. He succeeded his father to the Ballyleck Estate when his elder brother Thomas Montgomery (Irish politician) was disinherited for marrying an Englishwoman. He commanded a regiment of horse under the Duke of Marlborough. He was elected MP for County Monaghan, Ireland and sat from November 1727 to August 1733. He was appointed High Sheriff of Monaghan for 1726. He married Mary Coxe, a Maid of Honour to Queen Caroline, wife of King George II of Great Britain. The Honourable Thomas Coote (c. 1655 – 24 April 1741) was an Irish politician and judge, who sat in the Irish House of Commons, and held office as Recorder of Dublin and as a judge of the Court of King's Bench (Ireland). Although he was generally liked and respected, he was removed from the Bench in 1714, and resumed his political career. He was the grandfather of the Earl of Bellomont (third creation), and a noted bibliophile. Colonel Alexander Montgomery (1667 – 25 March 1722) was an Irish soldier and MP. His father was Major John Montgomery of Crogan, County Donegal. Alexander joined the British Army and was promoted a captain of the Inniskilling Dragoons in 1689, a major in 1704 and a lieutenant colonel in 1706. He was a captain of dragoons in the Monaghan Militia in 1708. He was appointed High Sheriff of County Monaghan for 1718 and elected M.P. for County Monaghan, sitting from 1713 to 1722. He married Elizabeth Cole, the daughter of Thomas Cole, Esquire of Mount Florence, County Fermanagh. Lieutenant-General Robert Echlin (c. 1657 – c. 1723) was an Irish officer of the British Army, who for many years commanded the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons He also sat in the Irish House of Commons and the House of Commons of Great Britain. In later life, embittered by his chronic state of poverty, lack of professional advancement and failing military career, he espoused the Jacobite cause, and died in exile in France. Richard Pockrich (c. 1666 – 1719) was an Irish landowner, military commander and Member of Parliament. Career He raised and commanded an independent company during the Williamite wars and was wounded at the siege of Athlone in 1690. Brigadier-General Sir Thomas Prendergast, 1st Baronet ( 1660 – 11 September 1709) was an Irish politician and soldier. Early life He was the son of Thomas Prendergast (d. 1725) of Croane, County Limerick, a small Catholic landowner, and Eleanor Condon, daughter of Daniel Condon. Little is known of his early life. His family suffered greatly under Oliver Cromwell, and he is thought to have grown up in poverty.
