Sir Abraham Hume, 1st Baronet
Sir Abraham Hume, 1st Baronet (1703 – 10 October 1772) was a British businessman and MP. He was the fourth son of Robert Home (subsequently Hume) of Ayton, Berwick. Wormleybury In 1816
Wormleybury is an 18th-century house surrounded by a landscaped park of 57 ha (140 acres) near Wormley in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, England, a few miles north of Greater London. The house was rebuilt in the 1770s from an earlier house built in 1734. The house is a Grade I listed building. The garden is well known for its historic rare plant collection. History The estate of Wormleybury, originally known as Wormley Bury, was one of several estates which King Harold endowed and granted to the Canons of Waltham Abbey (Waltham Holy Cross). Hume Baronets
There have been three baronetcies created for persons with the surname Hume, two in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and one in the Baronetage of Great Britain. One creations is dormant while two are extinct. The Hume Baronetcy, of Polwarth, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 19 December 1637. For more information on this creation, which became dormant in 1794, see Lord Polwarth. The Home Baronetcy, of North Berwick, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia in circa 1671 for George Hume. On the death of the fourth Baronet in 1747 the title became either extinct or dormant. The Hume Baronetcy, of Wormleybury in the County of Hertford, was created in the Baronetage of Great Britain on 4 April 1769 for Abraham Hume, Member of Parliament for Steyning and Tregony. John Grey (''c.'' 1724 – 25 February 1777) was a British politician, the younger son of Harry Grey, 3rd Earl of Stamford. He was the Clerk of the Green Cloth from 1754 until his death, and at the 1754 general election he was elected unopposed ''The Parliaments of England'' by Henry Stooks Smith (1st edition published in three volumes 1844–50), second edition edited (in one volume) by F. Thomas Pownall
Thomas Pownall (bapt. 4 September 1722 N.S. – 25 February 1805) was a British colonial official and politician. He was governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay from 1757 to 1760, and afterwards sat in the House of Commons from 1767 to 1780. He travelled widely in the North American colonies prior to the American Revolutionary War, opposed Parliamentary attempts to tax the colonies, and was a minority advocate of colonial positions until the Revolution. Classically educated and well-connected to the colonial administration in London, Pownall first travelled to North America in 1753. He spent two years exploring the colonies before being appointed Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey in 1755. He became governor of Massachusetts in 1757 after helping engineer the recall of longtime Governor William Shirley. The 1768 British general election returned members to serve in the House of Commons of the 13th Parliament of Great Britain to be held, after the merger of the Parliament of England and the Parliament of Scotland in 1707. The election took place amid continuing shifts within politics which had occurred the accession of George III in 1760. The Tories who had long been in parliamentary opposition having not won an election since 1713 had disintegrated with its former parliamentarians gravitating between the various Whig factions, the Ministry, or continued political independence as a Country Gentleman.
