Siobhán Ní Shúilleabháin
Siobhán Ní Shúilleabháin (31 August 1928 – 21 May 2013) was an Irish dramatist and writer. Biography Siobhán Ní Shúilleabháin was born in Ballyferriter, County Kerry. She was one of six children of Séamus Ó Súilleabháin and Máire Feiritéar. Her brother was author Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin. John B. Keane called her the "best dramatist writing in Ireland". Ní Shúilleabháin was the winner of the Irish Life award for plays in 1974, and of thirty Oireachtas literary awards. Her novel ''Aistriú'' (2004) led Pól Ó Muirí to write, "[It] is a work of great compassion and poignancy and Ní Shúilleabháin tells the story fluently. Her use of dialogue is particularly impressive, giving the reader the immediate sense of what is said but, magically, also conveying a second meaning behind the spoken one. Ballyferriter
Ballyferriter ( ga, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh , meaning 'Ferriter's townland', or ''an B ailtín'') is a Gaeltacht village in County Kerry, Ireland. It is in the west of the Corca Dhuibhne (Dingle) peninsula and according to the 2002 census, about 75% of the town's population speak the Irish language on a daily basis. The village is named after the Norman-Irish Feiritéar family who settled in Ard na Caithne in the late medieval period. The last Chief of the Name was the seventeenth-century Bard and leader Piaras Feiritéar who was executed. The older Irish name for the village ''An B ailtín'' ("the little dairy place") is still used locally. The village lies at the base of Croaghmarhin Hill near Cuan Ard na Caithne (formerly also called Smerwick Harbour) on the Dingle Peninsula, on the R559 regional road which loops around the west of the peninsula, beginning and ending in Dingle Town. County Kerry ( gle, Contae Chiarraí) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the South-West Region and forms part of the province of Munster.
