Sinop Province ( tr, Sinop ili ; el, Σινώπη, ''Sinopi'') is a province of Turkey, along the Black Sea. It is located between 41 and 42 degrees North latitude and between 34 and 35 degrees East longitude. The surface area is 5,862 km2, equivalent to 0.8% of Turkey's surface area. The borders total 475 km and consists of 300 km of land and 175 km seaside borders. Its adjacent provinces are Kastamonu on the west, Çorum on the south, and Samsun on the southeast. Durağan
Durağan is a town and district of Sinop Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The town is at the location where Kızıl River joins its tributary the Gök just before crossing the last mountain range northwards to the Black Sea. Rice farming in the fertile river valley has been the engine of economical activity of the town. The construction of two dams (Boyabat Dam (2012), Altınkaya Dam (1988)) have given Durağan two lakes instead of rice fields. The name of the town is an altered version of the name of a building from 13th century for overnight stay of caravans, Durak Han, literally "station house" in Turkish. Another possible explanation is that the name originates from "Dura Han" where Dura is the name of a ravine nearby (Dura Deresi) down from a plateau dominating the two river valleys. Boyabat
Boyabat is a town and district of Sinop Province in the Black Sea Region, Turkey, Black Sea region of Turkey. The mayor is Mehmet Ermiş (Justice and Development Party (Turkey), AKP). Boyabat has a population of 50,000 in the town itself. Ayancık
Ayancık is a town and district of Sinop Province in the Black Sea Region, Black Sea region of Turkey. The mayor is Hayrettin Kaya (Republican People's Party, CHP). History In the late 19th and early 20th century, Ayancık was part of the Kastamonu Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. Being the most ideal hilltop in Sinop, Ayancik was the site of a US military radar station from 1951 to 1992 during the Cold War.
