Singularity (other)
Singularity or singular point may refer to: Science, technology, and mathematics Mathematics * Mathematical singularity, a point at which a given mathematical object is not defined or not "well-behaved", for example infinite or not differentiable Geometry * Singular point of a curve, where the curve is not given by a smooth embedding of a parameter * Singular point of an algebraic variety, a point where an algebraic variety is not locally flat * Rational singularity Complex analysis * Essential singularity, a singularity near which a function exhibits extreme behaviour * Isolated singularity, a mathematical singularity that has no other singularities close to it * Movable singularity, a concept in singularity theory * Removable singularity, a point at which a function is not defined but at which it can be so defined that it is continuous at the singularity Natural sciences * Singularity (system theory), in dynamical and social systems, a context in which a small change can cau ...

Mathematical Singularity
In mathematics, a singularity is a point at which a given mathematical object is not defined, or a point where the mathematical object ceases to be well-behaved in some particular way, such as by lacking differentiability or analyticity. For example, the real function : f(x) = \frac has a singularity at x = 0, where the numerical value of the function approaches \pm\infty so the function is not defined. The absolute value function g(x) = , x, also has a singularity at x = 0, since it is not differentiable there. The algebraic curve defined by \left\ in the (x, y) coordinate system has a singularity (called a cusp) at (0, 0). For singularities in algebraic geometry, see singular point of an algebraic variety. For singularities in differential geometry, see singularity theory. Real analysis In real analysis, singularities are either discontinuities, or discontinuities of the derivative (sometimes also discontinuities of higher order derivatives). There are four kinds of discon ...

Singularity (software)
Singularity is a free and open-source computer program that performs operating-system-level virtualization also known as containerization. One of the main uses of Singularity is to bring containers and reproducibility to scientific computing and the high-performance computing (HPC) world. The need for reproducibility requires the ability to use containers to move applications from system to system. Using Singularity containers, developers can work in reproducible environments of their choosing and design, and these complete environments can easily be copied and executed on other platforms. In 2021 the Singularity open source project split into two projects called Apptainer and SingularityCE. History Singularity began as an open-source project in 2015, when a team of researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, led by Gregory Kurtzer, developed the initial version written in the C programming language and released it under the BSD license. By the end of 2 ...

Singularity 7
''Singularity 7'' is a four-issue comic book mini-series created, written, and illustrated by Ben Templesmith. It was published by American company IDW Publishing in 2004. The series combines elements of science-fiction, cyberpunk, and horror, to tell the story of a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. The title is a reference to the multiple definitions of ‘singularity’. Burton C. Bell's introduction to the collected volume references the myriad ways in which the word can (and is) used in the comic, as well as giving a humorous nod to the 'singularity' of the writer. "…the definition f singularityexpands beyond average intelligence. When I first heard the term, Stephen Hawking defined it when he was describing what might await at the bottom of black holes. All matter that is swallowed by the mighty gravitational pull of a black hole is reduced to a singularity, the size of an atom. That is mind blowing. The term is also used to describe that which is solely unique. Th ...

Singularity (DeSmedt Novel)
William H. DeSmedt is an American author of science fiction. His debut novel, ''Singularity'' (2004), explores the 1908 Tunguska event and the speculative hypothesis that it was caused by a submicroscopic, primordial black hole. Although ''Singularity'' is a work of science fiction, in the tradition of Michael Crichton, its premise is anchored in real-world science. In penning ''Singularity'', Bill also drew on a deep knowledge of the Russian language, politics and culture, first acquired during eighteen months at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and added to while a US–USSR exchange student at Moscow State University. He also holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Soviet Area Studies, and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science. The Singularity (Agents Of S
The technological singularity—or simply the singularity—is a hypothetical future point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable changes to human civilization. According to the most popular version of the singularity hypothesis, I.J. Good's intelligence explosion model, an upgradable intelligent agent will eventually enter a "runaway reaction" of self-improvement cycles, each new and more intelligent generation appearing more and more rapidly, causing an "explosion" in intelligence and resulting in a powerful superintelligence that qualitatively far surpasses all human intelligence.Vinge, Vernor"The Coming Technological Singularity: How to Survive in the Post-Human Era", in ''Vision-21: Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in the Era of Cyberspace'', G. A. Landis, ed., NASA Publication CP-10129, pp. 11–22, 1993. The first person to use the concept of a "singularity" in the technological context was John vo ...
