''Singles'' is the first and only compilation album from Scottish alternative rock band Travis. The album was released on 1 November 2004. The album consists of all of the band's singles from 1997–2004, as well as including two new tracks, "Walking In The Sun" and "The Distance". The album charted at #4 on the UK Albums Chart, performing considerably better than ''12 Memories'', actually selling the required 300,000+ copies that were shipped to make it a platinum album. Travis (band)
Travis are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1990, composed of Fran Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dougie Payne (bass guitar, backing vocals), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar, banjo, backing vocals) and Neil Primrose (drums, percussion). The band's name comes from the character Travis Henderson (played by Harry Dean Stanton) from the film ''Paris, Texas'' (1984). The band released their debut album, '' Good Feeling'' (1997), to moderate success where it debuted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and was later awarded a silver certification from the BPI in January 2000. The band gained greater success with their second album, ''The Man Who'' (1999), which spent nine weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, totalling 134 weeks in the top 100 of the chart. Coming Around (Travis Song)
"Coming Around" is a song by Scottish indie rock band Travis, released on 5 June 2000 as a stand-alone single, although it was subsequently added to a limited-edition Special Live Edition of '' The Man Who''. The single peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart and became the band's first number-one single on the Scottish Singles Chart. One of the single's B-sides is a cover of "The Weight", a song by the Band. In 2012, American rock band Counting Crows recorded this song for their album ''Underwater Sunshine (or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation)''. Fran Healy (musician)
Francis Healy (born 23 July 1973) is a Scottish singer, songwriter and musician. He is the lead singer and lyricist of the band Travis, having written nearly all of the songs on their first six studio albums and their ninth, with the seventh and eighth being more co-written works. He is based in Los Angeles. Healy released his debut solo album, titled '' Wreckorder'', in October 2010. Early life Born in Stafford, England, Healy grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, his mother's home town. His mother had moved back to Scotland after divorcing her husband. Healy has said that both his mother and his grandmother were major influences on him. Healy attended Holyrood Secondary School in Glasgow. As a young child at primary school, he was awarded a book of Robert Burns poems and a certificate "For Outstanding Singing Abilities" after singing the old Scottish song "Westering Home" while dressed in a kilt. It saw a change in musical direction for the band, moving away from the rockier tone of their debut '' Good Feeling'' (1997). ''Good Feeling'' is the debut studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Travis. The album was released on 8 September 1997, on Independiente Records. All four singles released from the album reached the UK Top 40 (with ''Tied To The 90s'' making to Top 30). Background and release Once set up in London, the band spent between nine months and a year recording new songs. The band played their first London show at the famous Dublin Castle in Camden. With around twenty good songs ready, they then approached managers Colin Lester and Ian McAndrew of Wildlife Entertainment, who then introduced the band to Andy MacDonald, owner of Go! "Turn" is the fourth single from Scottish rock band Travis's second studio album, ''The Man Who'' (1999). The single peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart and reached the top 40 in Ireland and New Zealand. Music video Two music videos were shot for the single. The first video, included on the group's ''Singles'' DVD, features Fran Healy engaged in a push-up contest. This video was filmed in Hackney on the Nightingale Estate.
