Hong Kong Sevens
The Hong Kong Sevens () is an rugby sevens tournament held annually in Hong Kong on a weekend in late March or early April. Considered the premier tournament on the World Rugby Sevens Series competition, the Hong Kong Sevens is currently the seventh tournament on the World Series calendar (following the Canada Sevens. The tournament spans three days, beginning on a Friday and concluding on Sunday. The tournament is organised each year by the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU). Singapore Sevens
The Singapore Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament contested by national teams. It was first hosted as part of the IRB World Sevens Series in 2002. The Standard Chartered Bank was the original title sponsor. It was effectively replaced in the calendar by the Australian Sevens for the 2006-07 season. The tournament returned as an official event within the Asian Sevens Series in 2013. Singapore then secured a four-year deal to host a leg of the Sevens World Series starting from the 2015–16 season. Singapore's rights to host a leg of the Sevens World Series was extended for a further four years until 2023, before the 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament in Singapore was cancelled again in 2021 due to ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to protect the health and safety of players, fans, and staff. Hong Kong Football Club Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium located in Happy Valley, Hong Kong inside the oval of Happy Valley Racecourse. The main pitch is used for football and rugby (union) matches, and there is an adjoining hockey pitch. The playing surface has been synthetic since 2004. The stadium, privately owned by the Hong Kong Football Club, holds 2,750 people and hosts the annual Hong Kong Tens tournament and the HKFC International Soccer Sevens tournament. The original HKFC Stadium on Sports Road was the venue for the world-famous Hong Kong Sevens from its inception in 1976 until it outgrew its home and was moved to the Hong Kong Government Stadium (now the Hong Kong Stadium) in 1982. The Manawatu Rugby Football Union (MRU) is the governing body of the sport of rugby union in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. Founded in 1886, Manawatu is one of New Zealand's oldest rugby unions. In 1892, the MRU, amongst other unions, was instrumental in the founding of the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU). Rugby union is not a major sport in Singapore. Singapore is currently ranked 58th in the world and 6th in Asia. As of February 2015, there over 12,000 registered players, with more than 2,000 women playing the sport. There are also 15 formally organised clubs with 4 registered Women's sides. Club Rugby in Singapore is played in three divisions – the Premiership, the Championship, and the Conference. School Rugby is also hotly contested over three age groups – the C division (under 14), the B division (under 17) and the A division (under 19). History The Singapore Cricket Club is said to have been one of the first rugby clubs in Singapore when employees from the British East India Company brought the game to Singapore. For many years in the 1800s and early 1900s the Singapore team that played against other Malayan states was made up of expatriates who were working in Singapore and army servicemen based in Singapore at the time.
