Singapore At The 2018 Winter Olympics
Singapore sent a delegation to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018. This marked the debut for Singapore at the Winter Olympics. The country was represented by single competitor, speed skater Cheyenne Goh. She did not advance out of the qualifying round of her event, the women's 1500 metres race. Background Singapore, then a British colony, first joined Olympic competition at the 1948 Summer Olympics, and have participated in every Summer Olympic Games since, except 1964, where Singaporean athletes competed as part of the Malaysian team, and the boycotted 1980 Summer Olympics. The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is the National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee for the Republic of Singapore. Singapore competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018. Singapore's team consists of 59 athletes competing in 11 sports (including four para-sport competitors). Singapore At The 2017 Asian Winter Games
Singapore competed in the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro, Japan from February 19 to 26. After competing with just one athlete in their Asian Winter Games debut, the country sent twenty-two athletes in two sports (three disciplines). Short track speed skater Lucas Ng was the country's flagbearer during the parade of nations at the opening ceremony. Tan Paey Fern () is a Singaporean table tennis Player. Tan was talent-scouted by ex-National Table Tennis Coach, Mr. Foo Soo Peng, when she was playing table tennis casually with her brother and some friends at the age of 9. Tan was a very determined young girl. She gave up her studies to practice table tennis. Her parents were worried but were very supportive.
