Sinfonietta (Prokofiev)
The Sinfonietta in A major is a composition for orchestra by Sergei Prokofiev. Background Sergei Prokofiev wrote his Sinfonietta in A major, opus number, Op. 5, in 1909 and dedicated it to Nikolai Tcherepnin, his conducting professor at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, St. Petersburg Conservatory. Prokofiev subsequently modified it twice, once in 1914 and finally in 1929, publishing the final revision as Op. 5/48. The premiere of the final revision was under Konstantin Saradzhev on 18 November 1930. Analysis The Sinfonietta is rather similar to the better-known Symphony No. 1 (Prokofiev), ''Classical'' Symphony, being light in character, while infusing Prokofiev's typical twists of harmony. Henry Swoboda
Henry Swoboda (October 29, 1897 – August 13, 1990) was a Czechoslovakian conductor and musicologist and, with James Grayson and Mischa Naida, co-founder of U.S. ''Westminster Records'' which flourished in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s as a purveyor of classical music recordings. Swoboda made many recordings for ''Westminster'' and the ''Concert Hall'' record label, including the first commercially available recording of Bruckner's Sixth Symphony. Virgin Records is a record label owned by Universal Music Group. It originally founded as a British independent record label in 1972 by entrepreneurs Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell, and musician Tom Newman. Alberto Zedda (2 January 19286 March 2017) was an Italian conductor and musicologist whose specialty was the 19th-century Italian repertoire. Alberto Zedda was born in Milan, Italy, where he accomplished his education in music and humanities, completed at the Musical Palaeography School of Cremona. The Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne (OCL, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra) is a Swiss chamber orchestra of around 40 musicians based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It has a vast repertoire, from the earliest baroque to contemporary premieres. The founder Victor Desarzens (1942-1973) was followed by Armin Jordan (1973—1985), then Lawrence Foster (1985-1990), Jesús López Cobos (1990-2000) and Christian Zacharias (2000-2013). Neeme Järvi
Neeme Järvi (; born 7 June 1937) is an Estonian American conductor. Early life Järvi was born in Tallinn. He initially studied music there, and later in Leningrad at the Leningrad Conservatory under Yevgeny Mravinsky, and Nikolai Rabinovich, among others. Early in his career, he held posts with the Estonian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn. In 1971 he won first prize in the International Conductors Competition at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Järvi emigrated to the United States in 1980 with his family. He became an American citizen in 1985. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) ( gd, Orcastra Nàiseanta Rìoghail na h-Alba) is a British orchestra, based in Glasgow, Scotland. The Philharmonia Orchestra is a British orchestra based in London. It was founded in 1945 by Walter Legge, a classical music record producer for EMI.
