Simpsons Illustrated
''Simpsons Illustrated'' was a companion magazine to the American animated television show ''The Simpsons''. It featured, among many other things, articles and interviews about the show, and comics based on the ''Simpsons'' universe. ''Simpsons Illustrated'' was published between 1991 and 1993 and led to the establishment of the Bongo Comics Group. History ''Simpsons Illustrated'' was produced by Matt Groening, Bill Morrison, Cindy and Steve Vance, and Katy Dobbs was the editorial director. It ran for ten issues from 1991 to 1993. Welsh Publishing Company issued it four times a year. The magazine had a circulation of one million. Bill Morrison drew and wrote all the ''Simpsons'' comics for ''Simpsons Illustrated'', while the ''Arnold'' strip was drawn by ''Simpsons'' creator Matt Groening's brother-in-law, Craig Bartlett. Marjorie Jacqueline "Marge" Simpson () is a character in the American animated sitcom ''The Simpsons'' and part of the Simpson family, eponymous family. Voiced by Julie Kavner, she first appeared on television in ''The Tracey Ullman Show'' short "Good Night (The Simpsons), Good Night" on April 19, 1987. Marge was created and designed by cartoonist Matt Groening while he was waiting in the lobby of James L. Brooks' office. Groening had been called to pitch a series of shorts based on ''Life in Hell'' but instead decided to create a new set of characters. He based the character on his mother Margaret Groening. The Simpsons Archive, also known by its previous domain name snpp.com or simply SNPP (named for the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant), is a Simpsons fan site that has been online since 1994. Maintained by dozens of volunteers from—amongst other places—the newsgroup alt.tv.simpsons and ''Simpsons''-related forums, the site features information on every aspect of the show, from detailed guides to upcoming episodes and merchandise, to the episode capsules (text files documenting freeze frame jokes, quotes, scene summaries, reviews and the like), for which the site is well known. In a bid to steer clear of Fox's legal department after a conflict in 1996, the site contains no multimedia or interactive features, preferring to focus on documenting the show through textual material. The following is a list of comic book series published by Bongo Comics based on the American animated television series ''The Simpsons''. The first comic strips based on ''The Simpsons'' appeared in 1991 in the magazine ''Simpsons Illustrated'' (not to be confused with the comic publications from 2012 bearing the same name), which was a companion magazine to the show. The comic strips were popular and a one-shot comic book entitled ''#Simpsons Comics and Stories, Simpsons Comics and Stories'', containing three different stories, was released in 1993 for the fans. The book was a success and due to this, the creator of ''The Simpsons'', Matt Groening, and his companions Bill Morrison (comics), Bill Morrison, Steve Vance and Cindy Vance created the publishing company Bongo Comics.
