Simone Nalatu
Simone Taraivosa Nalatu (born 21 March 1980 in , Queensland, Australia) is a Fijian Australian netball player. Biography Born in , Queensland, Nalatu's parents also represented Fiji in sports, with her father, Kini, a member of the Fiji national rugby union team and her mother, Faith, a member of the Fiji women's national field hockey team. Naltu commenced competing, aged eight years; and was a member of the Fiji national netball team, Fijian national team that played at the 2007 Netball World Championships. Nalatu studied at Griffith University and completed her PhD in 2012, studying the physical activity patterns of Indigenous Australians, Aboriginal mothers and the factors that influence participation. She also played for the Queensland Firebirds in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy from 2004–07. Australian Netball League
The Australian Netball Championships, formerly the Australian Netball League, is an Australian netball competition. Since 2008 it has served as a second level competition, initially below the ANZ Championship and later below Suncorp Super Netball. It is organised by Netball Australia. The teams in the competition are effectively the reserve teams of Suncorp Super Netball teams and/or the representative teams of state netball leagues, such as the South Australia state netball league, the Victorian Netball League and the West Australian Netball League. Victorian Fury were the inaugural ANL champions. Fury are also the competition's most successful team, having won eight premierships. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Baer had asked James Naismith, the Canadian inventor of basketball, to send her a copy of the rules, and Baer's errors resulted in what marked the beginning of the development of a separate sport.
