Simon Phipps (game Designer)
Simon Phipps is a British self-taught game programmer and video game designer. He began making games in 1982 when he wrote his first published video game he wrote while he was at school. He spent a few months writing business software before he was approached to provide some freelance artwork for Sheffield-based Gremlin Graphics. At his interview, he was offered a full-time position. In 1988, he was one of the founders of Core Design, where he would work on many of their titles until leaving in 1996. Phipps then worked on Acclaim Entertainment's hit '' Shadow Man'', alongside game designer Guy Miller. Phipps worked for Acclaim Teesside, but about 9 months into making the game '' ShadowMan: 2econd Coming'', he left for Electronic Arts (EA) where he worked alongside Guy Miller on the Harry Potter games for five years. Wolfchild
''Wolfchild'' is a platform game originally released for the Amiga and the Atari ST by Core Design in 1992. It was later released for the SNES, Sega Genesis, Mega Drive/Genesis, Sega CD, Master System, and Game Gear. The plot revolves around biotechnology researcher Kal Morrow and his son Saul. When the former is kidnapped by the evil Chimera organization, Saul uses one of his father's inventions to turn himself into a wolf-human hybrid (similar to a werewolf) that may be capable of defeating Chimera. ''Wolfchild'' was designed by Simon Phipps, also responsible for the earlier ''Switchblade 2'', a rather similar game. The action is viewed from the side and scrolls in eight directions. ''Thunderhawk'', known as ''AH-3 Thunderstrike'' in North America (in Europe known as ''Thunderhawk AH-73M''), is a combat flight simulation video game developed and published by Core Design and released for Amiga and MS-DOS in 1992. A remake was made and published by JVC Musical Industries for Sega CD in 1993 and for MS-DOS in 1996. An Atari Jaguar CD port was planned but never released. In the game, the player flies a fictional AH-73M attack helicopter. Gameplay The game consists of several campaigns for each one of ten world areas. ''Rick Dangerous 2'' is a platform game developed by Core Design for the Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and MS-DOS. It was released in 1990 and published by Micro Style as a sequel to '' Rick Dangerous''. Plot At the end of '' Rick Dangerous'', an alien invasion comes to Earth. As ''Rick Dangerous 2'' starts, UFOs land in London. The image shift in the character of Rick Dangerous is evident from the start: the coat is nowhere to be found and the Indiana Jones-style hat from the previous episode is almost symbolically blown off by a laser beam coming from one of the spaceships in the introduction sequence.
