Simon Fraser University (SFU) is a public research university in British Columbia, Canada, with three campuses, all in Greater Vancouver: Burnaby (main campus), Surrey, and Vancouver. The main Burnaby campus on Burnaby Mountain, located from downtown Vancouver, was established in 1965 and comprises more than 30,000 students and 160,000 alumni. Simon Fraser (Queensland Politician)
Simon Fraser (1824 – 8 January 1889) was an auctioneer and a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early years Fraser was born in Inverness, Scotland, to parents Alexander Fraser and his wife Janet. Educated at Inverness, he ran an ironmongery business in Liverpool before leaving for Queensland in 1862. With John Buckland, he founded the partnership of Fraser & Buckland, auctioneers with the business later becoming Fraser & Son. Based in Queen Street, Brisbane, Fraser & Son were land and commission agents as well as stock, station and produce brokers. Political career Fraser was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, during which time he represented three seats: Town Of Brisbane from 1868 to 1870, Bundamba from 1873 to 1878, and Brisbane South from 1880 to 1888. Simon Fraser, Master Of Lovat
Simon Augustine Fraser, Master of Lovat (28 August 1939 – 26 March 1994) was the son of 15th Lord Lovat and the former Rosamond Broughton. He predeceased his father, and his son Simon inherited the Lordship of Lovat in 1995. He died of a heart attack while hunting on his (then) estate at Beaufort Castle. Life During his life, the Master of Lovat accumulated an estimated seven million pounds sterling (£7,000,000) in debts. As a result, upon his father's death in 1995, the family estate of Beaufort Castle was sold, for around £2,000,000. His son, the 16th Lord Lovat, has voiced his determination to buy it back. Simon Fraser (born March 27, 1983 in Champaign, Illinois) is a former American football defensive end. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Ohio State Buckeyes football, Ohio State. Fraser has also played for the Atlanta Falcons. Simon Fraser is a British comics artist and writer best known for his work on ''Nikolai Dante'', a series he created with writer Robbie Morrison in '' 2000 AD'', and ''Tales of the Night Watchman'' for So What? Press. Career Fraser's early work includes ''Lux and Alby Sign on and Save the Universe'', a 1993–1994 collaboration with novelist Martin Millar co-published by Acme Press and Dark Horse Comics. Despite having little interest in football, he worked on ''Roy of the Rovers'', including drawing the character's final appearance in 1995. Sir Simon James Fraser (born 3 June 1958) is a British former diplomat who served as the Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from August 2010 to July 2015, having served as Permanent Secretary of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills from May 2009 to August 2010. Simon Fraser Jr (25 August 1886 – 11 May 1919) was an Australian sportsman who was an Olympic rower and played high-level Australian rules football. In football he played with Essendon and University in the Victorian Football League (VFL). As a rower he represented Australia at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics and was a member of the first Australian eight to win the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta. In ice hockey he played for the Beavers Ice Hockey Club, one of the four founding teams in the newly founded Victorian Amateur Ice Hockey Association. Sir Simon Fraser (21 August 1832 – 30 July 1919) was a Canadian-Australian businessman, pastoralist, and politician. He served as a Senator for Victoria from 1901 to 1913, having previously been a member of the colonial Parliament of Victoria. Early life Fraser was born on 21 August 1832 in Big Brook (now known as Lorne), a small rural township in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the youngest son of Jane (née Fraser) and William Fraser. His parents shared the same surname, although no familial connection has been noted between the two. Fraser's father was born in Beauly, Inverness-shire, Scotland, and claimed descent from Clan Fraser of Lovat. He arrived in Nova Scotia in 1801, as a small child. Simon Fraser (explorer)
Simon Fraser (20 May 1776 – 18 August 1862) was a fur trader and explorer of Scottish ancestry who charted much of what is now the Canadian province of British Columbia. He also built the first European settlement in British Columbia. Employed by the Montreal-based North West Company, he had been by 1805 put in charge of all of the company's operations west of the Rocky Mountains. He was responsible for building that area's first trading posts, and in 1808, he explored what is now known as the Fraser River, which bears his name. Fraser's exploratory efforts were partly responsible for Canada's boundary later being established at the 49th parallel (after the War of 1812) since he, as a British subject, was the first European to establish permanent settlements in the area. Lieutenant-Colonel John Simon Frederick Fraser (1765–1803), also referred to as Simon Fraser, the younger of Lovat, commanded the Fraser Fencibles in Ireland and was Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Inverness-shire from 1796 to 1802. Biography Simon Fraser was the eldest son of Archibald Fraser 20th MacShimidh (1736–1815) and Jane, daughter of William Fraser. He matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford on 4 July 1786 and entered Lincoln's Inn in 1789 and the Inner Temple in 1793. He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Fraser Fencibles, and saw service in Ireland during the Irish rebellion of 1798.
