Sim Gideon Power Plant
The Sim Gideon Power Plant is a 620 megawatt ( MW), natural gas fired power plant located near Bastrop, Texas in Bastrop County, Texas. It is owned and operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority. The Sim Gideon Power Plant consists of three generating units that operate via simple cycle combustion turbine utilizing natural gas. The plant, along with Lost Pines Power Project 1, is part of the Lost Pines Power Park. Three generating units compose the Sim Gideon Power Plant: * Unit 1, completed in 1965, with a generating capacity of 140 MW * Unit 2, completed in 1968, with a generating capacity of 140 MW * Unit 3, completed in 1971, with a generating capacity of 340 MW Cooling water is provided by Lake Bastrop, a freshwater reservoir, and four wells that produce groundwater from the Simsboro Aquifer. Bastrop County is located in the U.S. state of Texas. It is in Central Texas and its county seat is Bastrop. As of the 2020 census, the population was 97,216. In 2019, Texas had a total summer capacity of 125,117 MW through all of its power plants, and a net generation of 483,201 GWh. Bastrop () is a city and the county seat of Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,688 according to the 2020 census. It is located about southeast of Austin and is part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area. A Simple-Cycle Combustion Turbine (SCCT) is a type of gas turbine most frequently used in the power generation, aviation (jet engine), and oil and gas industry (electricity generation and mechanical drives).
