Silvio Rojas (Chilean Footballer)
Silvio Antonio Rojas Ortiz (born 21 September 1977) is a Chilean former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder for clubs in Chile and Mexico. Career A product of Universidad Católica, Rojas took part of the Chile under-17 squad in the 1993 FIFA World Championship at the age of fifteen, where they reached the third place. Due to this achievement, the players were given some state benefits in education and housing. He stayed with Universidad Católica until 1997 and switched to Magallanes in the same year. The next year, he moved to Mexico and joined Querétaro. Back in Chile, he played for San Luis de Quillota and Ñublense in 1999 and 2000, respectively. In Ñublense, he coincided with and , both former fellows in Chile U17. After trying to sign with another club, he retired from football due to the fact that he lost the excitement, according to himself. Club Deportivo Ñublense () is a professional football team based in Chillán, Ñuble Region, Chile. The club was formed in 1916 under the name of Liceo Fútbol Club. They compete in Chile's Primera División league. History Amateur era Ñublense was formed in 1916 by a group of teenagers (led by Chillán teacher Manuel Lara Gutiérrez) who founded a sports club as a haven for sports activities in the city. On 20 August of that year, in the boys' high school the club was called the Liceo Fútbol Club. Other sports sponsored included basketball and boxing. The football team played for many years in local leagues, where they were champions for 11 consecutive years (1938–49).
