Silvio Palmieri
Silvio Palmieri (10 November 1957 – 22 October 2018) was a Canadian composer. He was born in LaSalle, Quebec. Early life and education Silvio Palmieri received his musical training at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. He studied composition and analysis with Gilles Tremblay (composer), Gilles Tremblay, counterpoint and orchestration with Clermont Pépin, and electroacoustics with Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux and Yves Daoust. Life and career His repertoire consists of various genres : he notably composed an opera : Elia (commissioned by the :fr:Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, Ensemble de musique contemporaine); Flak, for choreographer José Navas and his dance company; many pieces for piano and chamber orchestra; soundtracks for movies, videos and plays, such as Hamlet, presented at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde in 2011 (Marc Béland, dir.). A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Many composers are, or were, also skilled performers of music. Etymology and Definition The term is descended from Latin, ''compōnō''; literally "one who puts together". Quebec Contemporary Music Society
The Quebec Contemporary Music Society, or Société de musique contemporaine du Québec in French (SMCQ), is a contemporary classical-music organization based in Montreal, Quebec. It was founded in 1966 by Montreal composers and musicians, including Wilfrid Pelletier, Jean Papineau-Couture, Hugh Davidson (composer), Hugh Davidson, Serge Garant, and Maryvonne Kendergian. The SMCQ presents an annual series of concerts involving its own ensemble as well as invited guests, the biennial Montreal/New Music International Festival, and a youth program called SMCQ Jeunesse (SMCQ Youth). The 2007–08 season marked the inaugural of an Homage Series, planned to be a biennial collaborative event featuring the music of an important Quebec composer, which that season was Claude Vivier. Angela Tosheva Tosheva, Ph.D (Bulgarian: Д-р Анжела Тошева Тошева; born 15 June 1961 in Sofia), is a Bulgarians, Bulgarian freelance pianist, chamber musician, piano and chamber music pedagogue, editor and with Michail Goleminov director of Orange Factory psychoacoustic arts and music publishing house, Sofia, Bulgaria. Alain Trudel
Alain Trudel (born 13 June 1966) is a Canadian conductor, trombonist and composer. Biography Born in Montreal, Quebec, Trudel first became known to the public as a trombone soloist. He made his solo debut at the age of 18, with Charles Dutoit and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal. Trudel was the first Canadian to be a Yamaha international artist, and Yamaha has named a trombone mouthpiece in his honour. He served on the faculty of the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec à Montréal from 1995 to 2008, teaching trombone and chamber music. From 2004 to 2012, Trudel was conductor of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. From 2006 to 2008, Trudel was music director of the CBC Radio Orchestra, the final conductor to hold the post whilst the orchestra was under the auspices of the CBC. Louise Bessette, (born June 20, 1959) is a Canadian pianist. Born in Montreal, she trained at the Conservatoire de musique du Quebec a Montreal (CMQM). Awards In 2001, she was made a member of the Order of Canada in recognition for "her great talent and contribution to contemporary music". In 2005, she was made an Officer of the National Order of Quebec. In 2014 she was awarded an Opus Award for Performer of the Year. LaSalle, Quebec
LaSalle () is the most southerly borough (''arrondissement'') of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
