Silvio Benigno Crespi
Silvio Benigno Crespi (24 September 1868 in Milan – 15 January 1944 in Cadorago) was an Italian entrepreneur, inventor and politician. Firstborn of Cristoforo Benigno Crespi and Pia Travelli. He succeeded his father in running the firm of Crespi d'Adda, today a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is considered notable for being a 19th and 20th century company town which reflected enlightened industrialists' respect for their employees. He graduated with a law degree at age 21 and went to France, Germany and England to follow the development of the cotton industry. He also worked in Oldham, at Platt Brothers, a famous manufacturer of textile machinery. In 1889 he joined his father's firm Crespi d'Adda where he expanded the village and introduced the construction of homes with gardens. He was among the world's most powerful men at the time and signed the Treaty of Versailles at the end of the First World War on behalf of Italy.

Cristoforo Benigno Crespi
Cristoforo Benigno Crespi (18 October 1833 in Busto Arsizio – 5 January 1920 in Milan) was an Italian entrepreneur. Biography In 1897 a cotton textile industry was created in the province of Milan and the factory and its worker village, called Crespi d'Adda was built on the left bank of the river Adda between the towns of Capriate San Gervasio and Canonica d’Adda where the flow of water provided hydroelectric energy to power the cotton looms. It was in full production until the economic crash of 1929 when the family went bankrupt but was still producing in limited output up until its closure in 2004. Descendants of the original workers still live in the village. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. Crespi d'Adda is a village in northern Italy, Italian and hamlet (''frazione'') of Capriate San Gervasio, a municipality in the province of Bergamo, Lombardy. It is a historic settlement and an outstanding example of the 19th and early 20th-century model village, "company towns" built in Europe and North America by enlightened industrialists to meet the workers' needs. Oldham
Oldham is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, amid the Pennines and between the rivers Irk and Medlock, southeast of Rochdale and northeast of Manchester. Platt Brothers
Platt Brothers, also known as Platt Bros & Co Ltd, was a British company based at Werneth in Oldham, North West England. The company manufactured textile machinery and were iron founders and colliery proprietors. By the end of the 19th century, the company had become the largest textile machinery manufacturer in the world, employing more than 12,000 workers. Companies Henry Platt was a blacksmith who in 1770 was manufacturing carding equipment, in Dobcross, Saddleworth, to the east of Oldham.
