Silverwood Colliery
Silverwood Colliery was a coal mining, colliery situated between Thrybergh and Ravenfield in Yorkshire, England. Originally called Dalton Main, it was renamed after a local woodland. It was owned by Dalton Main Collieries Ltd. History Dalton Main Collieries Limited became a public company which was floated on the London Stock Exchange in December 1899. The purpose of the company was to buy out the business of Roundwood Colliery, purchase land at Silverwood, between Thrybergh and Ravenfield, and sink a new deep colliery there. These installations were to be connected to a boat staithe on the River Don, South Yorkshire, River Don by a railway. The first shaft commenced sinking in 1900 and coal was being worked by 1904. Silverwood Colliery F
Silverwood Theme Park is an amusement park located in the city of Athol in northern Idaho, United States, near the town of Coeur d'Alene, approximately from Spokane, Washington on US 95. Owner Gary Norton opened the park on June 20, 1988. Originally, the park included a small assortment of carnival rides, a "main street" with shops and eateries, and an authentic steam train that traveled in a 30-minute loop around the owner's property. From 1973 to 1988, the land, along with a fully functioning airstrip, was operated as the Henley Aerodrome, named after the family whom Norton bought it from in 1981. Over the years, Silverwood has grown in both size and popularity, transforming from a small local amusement park to a regional theme park destination. ''When Saturday Comes'' is a 1996 British film directed by Maria Giese and starring Sean Bean and Emily Lloyd. The film was released in March 1996, and was distributed by Guild Film Distribution. The soundtrack includes a variety of classic music tracks as well as newly commissioned songs. The score was composed by Anne Dudley and the soundtrack includes contributions from Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet and Sheffield artists including Def Leppard's Joe Elliott who performs on two new tracks: "When Saturday Comes" and the instrumental "Jimmy's Theme". Maltby Main Colliery
The Maltby Main Colliery was a coal mine located east of Rotherham on the eastern edge of Maltby, South Yorkshire, England. The mine was closed in 2013. History The first shafts at Maltby Main Colliery were sunk in 1910, and the first coal produced in 1912, though not all faces were in production until 1914. Situated in a wooded area on Tickhill Road the colliery was some distance from the township of Maltby and in order to gain a workforce the colliery company commissioned the building of Maltby Model Village, an estate of 400 houses. The colliery was opened by the Maltby Main Colliery Company, a subsidiary of the Sheepbridge Iron and Coal Company. Before nationalisation the owners were given as Amalgamated Denaby Collieries Ltd. Paddy mails, generally considered as being workmen's trains, were operated by, or for many companies to transport their workers to their place of work or between their sites of work. Originally they were operated by railway contractors, on temporary tracks laid to remove spoil from their workings, to transport workers from their "shanty villages" to the work site. Many of these navvies as they were known were of Irish origin, hence the name given to the trains (see: Paddy). Once the main line was built the name passed to the workmen's specials, which in many cases, were operated along the main line railways and sometimes operated by the main line companies to an exchange point where the trains were taken over by the industrial company. Cadeby Main Pit Disaster
The Cadeby Main Pit Disaster was a coal mining accident on 9 July 1912 which occurred at Cadeby Main Colliery in Cadeby, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, killing 91 men. Early in the morning of 9 July an explosion in the south-west part of the Cadeby Main pit killed 35 men, with three more dying later due to their injuries. Later in the same day, after a rescue party was sent below ground, another explosion occurred, killing 53 men of the rescue party. Disaster Opened in 1893, the Cadeby Main pit was owned by the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company, 5,000 men worked in Cadeby and at the related Denaby pit.
