Silver Lake, Otsego County, New York
Silver Lake is a hamlet situated on a small lake of the same name in the Town of Pittsfield. It is located south of Village of New Berlin along the eastern bank of the Unadilla River. Silver Lake, which is , and the surrounding wetlands are privately owned. A former 1920s era race track surrounds the lake and has been turned into a nature sanctuary. Otsego County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 58,524. The county seat is Cooperstown. The name ''Otsego'' is from a Mohawk or Oneida word meaning "place of the rock." History In 1789, Ontario County was split off from Montgomery. Pittsfield is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 1,366 at the 2010 census. The Town of Pittsfield is on the western border of the county, northwest of the City of Oneonta. History The town was first settled ''circa'' 1793. North American area code 607 is a state of New York telephone area code servicing parts of its Southern Tier (which borders Pennsylvania). It was created in 1954 by combining the southern portion of 315 and the eastern portion of 716. Initially, in the late 1940s, area codes with a middle digit of "0" (x0x-xxx-xxxx) were assigned only to jurisdictions covering an entire state. New Berlin ( ) is a village in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 1,028 at the census. The village is by the eastern town line of the town of New Berlin and is northeast of Norwich. History The village was incorporated in 1816. Unadilla River
The Unadilla River is a river in the Central New York Region of New York State. The river begins northeast of the hamlet of Millers Mills and flows generally south to the village of Sidney, where it converges with the Susquehanna River, which drains into the Chesapeake Bay, a bay of the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the length of the Unadilla forms the western border of Otsego County and the eastern borders of Chenango and Madison counties, all in New York. This border made up a significant portion of the Fort Stanwix Treaty Line of 1768. It was meant to establish the border for an Indian reserve, beyond which European-American settlers were not supposed to go. Settlers resented British efforts to control their movements, and continued to encroach on Native American territories.
