Silvan, Victoria
Silvan is a town in Victoria, Australia, located 40 km east of Melbourne, located within the Shire of Yarra Ranges local government area. Silvan recorded a population of 1,323 at the 2021 census. Silvan marks the halfway point between Belgrave and Lilydale, both large suburban areas. The area's soils, well suited to growing fruits, vegetables and flowers, draw tourists to the various pick-yourself orchards and berry farms in Silvan. A cultivated hybrid variety of blackberry known as the silvanberry is named after the town. History Originally known as ''Wandin Yallock South'', the town was first surveyed in 1868. The town's name was changed to Silvan in 1913, the same year the local primary school changed its name to Silvan Primary School. Electoral District Of Evelyn
The electoral district of Evelyn is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly covering the urban fringe north east of Melbourne. It was first proclaimed in 1859. The seat has shrunk considerably in size as the eastern suburbs of Melbourne grew. It now includes the suburbs and towns of Coldstream, Gruyere, Lilydale, and Wonga Park. The seat is usually safe for the Liberal Party but it was won by the Labor Party during their three landslide victories of 1952, 1982 and 2002. Tesselaar Tulip Festival
Tesselaar Tulip Festival is held in Silvan, Victoria every spring since 1954. It has become one of iconic tourist attraction in Victoria, Australia with more than 120 varieties of tulips are shown on a 55-acre farm. This tulip farm was initiated by a couple of Dutch immigrants, Cees and Johanna Tesselaar. They arrived in Melbourne at 1939 and started to grow tulips, gladioli and daffodils on their land. After purchasing a bigger land in Silvan, they grew more tulip bulbs and it attracted people to stop by on their property and admire their fields. At 1954, Cees and Johanna decided to publicly open the farm with silver coin donation for Red Cross Australia. In 2017, around 900,000 tulip bulbs are planted using modern machinery and 80,000 of bulbs still planted traditionally by hand. Silvan Reservoir
The Silvan Reservoir is located in Silvan about east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It has a capacity of . The reservoir is operated by Melbourne Water. Operations Silvan is an off-stream storage reservoir, meaning that most of the water is sourced from other reservoirs as the actual catchment area of for Silvan is small. Water for Silvan is transferred from Upper Yarra, O'Shannassy and Thomson (via Upper Yarra) reservoirs. Belgrave, Victoria
Belgrave is a town and outer suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 36 km east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the Shire of Yarra Ranges local government area. Belgrave recorded a population of 3,894 at the 2021 census. History Belgrave is situated in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, part of the land of the Wurundjeri first nations people. Belgrave was first settled by Europeans in 1851. Belgrave was named after an 1840s chapel in Leeds, Yorkshire, England; the name was carried by Mr and Mrs R.G.
