Silk (album)
''Silk'' is the self-titled second studio album by American R&B group Silk. It was released on November 28, 1995 through Elektra Records. The album peaked at number forty-six on the US ''Billboard'' 200 chart. Critical reception Stephen Thomas Erlewine at Allmusic called the group's vocals on the album "impressive." Erlewine also gave note to the production, which he referred to as "seamless without being overly slick. The only problem with Silk, then, is the wildly uneven material." Silk is an American R&B group, formed in 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia. They are best known for their 1993 hit single, "Freak Me", which reached number-one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Career Silk is best known for their hit singles, "Freak Me", and "Happy Days" from their debut album, '' Lose Control''. Another hit from ''Lose Control'', "Girl U For Me", helped the album reach double platinum status. They later had success with singles such as " I Can Go Deep", "Hooked on You", "Don't Rush", "If You" (released February 23, 1999) "Meeting in My Bedroom", and "We're Calling You". Andrea Monica Martin (April 14, 1972 – September 27, 2021) was an American R&B singer-songwriter and record producer. Phonograph Record
A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. It had co-existed with the phonograph cylinder from the late 1880s and had effectively superseded it by around 1912. Records retained the largest market share even when new formats such as the compact cassette were mass-marketed. Tony Maserati is an American record producer and audio engineer specializing in mixing. He was involved in the development of the New York R&B and hip-hop scene in the 1990s, working with Mary J. Blige, Notorious B.I.G., Puff Daddy, and Queen Latifah. Since then he has worked on Grammy nominated projects with The Black Eyed Peas, Beyoncé (who he won Best R&B Album with on her 2003 '' Dangerously in Love''), Jason Mraz, Robin Thicke, and Usher. Charles Alexander (born April 2, 1958), known professionally as Prince Charles Alexander, is an American record producer and audio engineer. He received a Grammy for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album in 2003. Background Alexander was born in Boston and is a graduate of Boston Latin School. Cameo is an American funk band that formed in 1974. Cameo was initially a 14-member group known as the New York City Players; this name was later changed to Cameo. Horace Brown (born in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American R&B singer. He is the son of an Apostolic minister. Life and career Brown played a variety of instruments in his school's marching band and got a break when DeVante Swing of Jodeci heard one of his demos. He then earned spots doing background vocals for Christopher Williams and some writing and producing (Terri & Monica's ''Systa'' album). He then managed to get a recording contract with Uptown Records after president Andre Harrell saw him in a recording session. In 1994, while with Uptown Records he record his first album, Brown spurred controversy when his single "Taste Your Love" was released. Gary "Lil G" Jenkins is an American musician. He is the lead singer of the R&B group Silk. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, he is the youngest of seven children. Musical career Gary began singing in church at the age of seven, which earned him a role as a featured soloist on BET's ''The Bobby Jones Gospel Show'' for many years. By the age of nine, Gary had mastered the guitar after only a few lessons and had self-taught an assortment of keyboards, drums and guitars. While attending Tennessee State University (TSU) in Nashville, Gary majored in music, with an emphasis in piano and voice.
