Silistra Province
Silistra Province ( bg, Област Силистра, transliterated ''Oblast Silistra'', former name Silistra okrug) is a province of Bulgaria, named after its main city - Silistra. It is divided into seven municipalities with a total population, as of December 2009, of 127,659. The province is part of Southern Dobrudja, which was part of Romania until 1940. Silistra Province is a traditionally agricultural province, mainly because of its fertile soil. The province is known for its pelicans and apricot brandy. Besides the administrative centre, other municipalities are Alfatar, Dulovo, Glavinitsa, Kaynardzha, Sitovo, and Tutrakan. Silistra Municipality
Silistra Municipality ( bg, Община Силистра) is a municipality ('' obshtina'') in Silistra Province, Northeastern Bulgaria, located along the right bank of Danube river, in the Danubian Plain, bounded by Romania to the northeast and north beyond the river. It is named after its administrative centre - the city of Silistra which is also the capital of the province. The municipality embraces a territory of 515.89 km² with a population of 54,885 inhabitants, as of December 2009. Aside from the historical heritage of the main town, the area is best known with the Srebarna Nature Reserve around the lake of the same name.
