The San Jose Chamber of Commerce (abbreviated SJCC), formerly known as the Silicon Valley Organization, is a chamber of commerce representing business interests in San Jose, California. It is the largest chamber of commerce in the Silicon Valley region. Founded in 1886, the chamber has played a role in the development of the local economy and politics. History 19th century The San Jose Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1886 as the Santa Clara Valley Board of Trade. In 1900, it briefly became the Santa Clara Valley Improvement Association before changing its name to the San Jose Chamber of Commerce the following year. 20th century In 1910, the chamber formed the Commission Government League to promote reforms to the San Jose city charter. The Silicon Valley Leadership Group (abbreviated SVLG) is a non-profit advocacy group in Silicon Valley, California, in the United States. Its members are businesses that operate in the valley and its purpose is to influence public policy relating to the valley. The organization was founded in 1978 by David Packard, co-founder of Hewlett-Packard, and represents more than 390 Silicon Valley's firms. History The group was founded as the Santa Clara County Manufacturers Group (SCCMG) by David Packard in 1978, later becoming the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group. Ernest E. Renzel (August 7, 1907 – September 15, 2007) was an American politician who served as the mayor of San Jose, California, from 1945 until 1946. He was known as the "Father of the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport" for his work in establishing a major airport in the city. Early life Ernie Renzel was born as a third-generation resident of San Jose.
