Silicon Valley African Film Festival
The Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) is an annual film festival held in California to promote an understanding and appreciation of Africa and Africans through moving images. Nigerian filmmaker Chike Nwoffiah founded the SVAFF in 2010 and has served as its director since. According to Nwoffiah, "People’s understanding of Africa was limited to the Tarzan Tarzan (John Clayton II, Viscount Greystoke) is a fictional character, an archetypal feral child raised in the African jungle by the Mangani great apes; he later experiences civilization, only to reject it and return to the wild as a heroic adv ... narratives of Africa as backward, untamed and uncivilized. Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (born 1967) is an American stage and film actor, playwright, photographer and documentarian. He was credited by the short form Ntare Mwine through to his 2008 appearances in '' The Riches'', and has been credited with his full name thereafter. Tomas Lutuli Brickhill (born 25 March 1978) is a filmmaker, writer, and musician in Zimbabwe . He directed the critically acclaimed 2017 film ''Cook Off''. ''Cook Off'' is a 2017 Zimbabwean romantic comedy film written and directed by Tomas Brickhill. Shirley Frimpong-Manso (born 16 March 1977) is a Ghanaian film director, writer, and producer. She is the founder and CEO of Sparrow Productions, a film, television and advertising production company. She won Best Director at the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards. Chike C. Nwoffiah (born 22 July 1965 in Nigeria) is a Nigerian filmmaker and arts consultant. He was listed as one of the "Top Ten Most Influential African Americans" in the San Francisco Bay Area by ''City Flight Magazine'' in 2000.
