''Silence in the Forest'' (german: Das Schweigen im Walde) is a 1976 West German historical drama film directed by Alfred Vohrer and starring Alexander Stephan, Belinda Mayne and Evelyn Opela.Goble p. 943 It is a heimatfilm, one of the last productions in the group of films produced in post-war Germany. It is based on Ludwig Ganghofer's novel of the same title which has been adapted for the screen several time. Alfred Vohrer (29 December 1914 – 3 February 1986) was a German film director and actor. He directed 48 films between 1958 and 1984. His 1969 film ''Seven Days Grace'' was entered into the 6th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1972 film '' Tears of Blood'' was entered into the 8th Moscow International Film Festival. Ferdy Mayne
Ferdy Mayne (or Ferdie Mayne) (born Ferdinand Philip Mayer-Horckel; 11 March 1916 – 30 January 1998) was a German-British stage and screen actor. Born in Mainz, he emigrated to the United Kingdom in the early 1930s to escape the Nazi regime. He resided in the UK for the majority of his professional career. Working almost continuously throughout a 60 year-long career, Mayne was known as a versatile character actor, often playing suave villains and aristocratic eccentrics in films like ''The Fearless Vampire Killers, Where Eagles Dare, Barry Lyndon'', and '' Benefit of the Doubt.''
