Silanus Of Ambracia
Silanus ( el, Σιλανός) of Ambracia was an Ancient Greece, ancient Greeks, Greek soothsayer in Xenophon's Anabasis (Xenophon), ''Anabasis''. In 401 BC, he accompanied Cyrus the Younger in an expedition against Artaxerxes II of Persia, Artaxerxes. When Silanus provided Cyrus with a successful prediction, he was rewarded with 3000 darics (or 10 attic talent, talents).Smithp. 818 (Volume III). "SILANUS (2iAaz/o's), an Ambracian soothsayer, who accompanied Cyrus the Younger in his expedition against his brother Artaxerxes, in b. c. 401. For a successful prediction Cyrus rewarded him with 3000 darics, or 10 talents. Gaius Julius Silanus
Gaius Julius Silanus was a Roman senator and general who held a series of offices in the emperor's service. He was suffect consul for the ''nundinium'' of January to April 92 as the colleague of Quintus Junius Arulenus Rusticus. Silanus is known solely through inscriptions. Ronald Syme speculates Silanus came from Tres Galliae, and adds that "the '' cognomen'' need have nothing to do with the aristocratic Junii Silani." He was co-opted into the Arval Brethren on 22 January 86 to replace the recently deceased Gaius Vipstanus Apronianus.
