The Sikorsky XP2S was an American biplane patrol flying boat developed for the United States Navy during the early 1930s. Design and development After selling a small quantity of PS / RS patrol / transport amphibians to the Navy, Sikorsky (then a division of United Aircraft Corporation) endeavoured to interest the service in a patrol flying boat. Having received a development contract in mid-1930, Sikorsky delivered a complete aircraft for testing in June 1932. The XP2S-1, as the prototype was designated, was a two-bay, equal-span biplane of mixed construction. Its two R-1340 Wasp radial engines were mounted in a single nacelle in a tandem configuration. The Naval Aircraft Factory PN was a series of open cockpit American flying boats of the 1920s and 1930s. A development of the Felixstowe F5L flying boat of the First World War, variants of the PN were built for the United States Navy by Douglas, Keystone and Martin. Development and design The PN flying boats were ​twin-engine biplanes with their engines mounted in nacelles between the fabric-covered wings. Other than on the PN-11 which had a different hull form, the hull had large chines running back to the first step similar to those on the F.5L. It had a standard crew of five, but was capable of carrying a relief crew for long patrols. Hall PH
The Hall PH was an American flying boat of the 1930s. It was a twin-engined biplane, developed from the Naval Aircraft Factory PN and could hence trace its lineage back to the Felixstowe flying boats of World War I. The PH was purchased in small numbers by the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard. The Boeing XPB (company Model 50) was an American twin-engined biplane long-range patrol flying boat of the 1920s. A single example was built for the United States Navy.
