The Sikkim Premier Division League (also known as Probo Sikkim Premier Division League for sponsorship reasons) is the highest state-level football league in Sikkim, India, organised by Sikkim Football Association. United Sikkim FC is the most successful club with three league titles. History Sikkim Premier Division League The current top-tier league in Sikkim, also known as the Sikkim A Division League, was started by the Sikkim Football Association in 2011 with 8 teams. The league was suspended in 2019, following a dispute between the Football Players Association of Sikkim (FCAS) and the SFA. The state league eventually resumed in 2023. Matches for the 2023 season were broadcast on Pavilion TV, on youtube. Sikkim Football Association ( SFA; is the state governing body of football in Sikkim, India. It is affiliated with the All India Football Federation, the sports national governing body. History The Sikkim Football Association was formed in the year 1976, previously it was known as the ''Gangtok Football and Sporting Association''. Sikkim football dates back with first local team, Kumar Sporting Club. The federation started Sikkim Gold Cup in 1979 with the help of the Sikkim government. As interest in football in Sikkim went down due to the lack of organizing, former India Football Team captain Baichung Bhutia, who was born in Sikkim, founded the club United Sikkim United Sikkim Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Gangtok, Sikkim. Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club (sometimes known as Gangtok Himalayan SC) is an Indian professional football club based in Gangtok, Sikkim. The club usually participated in the I-League 2nd Division, then second tier of Indian football league system, and the Sikkim Premier Division League. The club is also a frequent participant of the Sikkim Gold Cup, a premier club tournament in the state. History Formation and journey Gangtok Himalayan FC (originally known as Sikkim Himalayan SC) was founded in 2012 in Gangtok, the capital city of the Indian state Sikkim, and affiliated with Sikkim Football Association (SFA). Since then, they have been participating in various domestic and amateur tournaments regionally. The club was founded by Tenzing Lamtha. In October 2014, Gangtok Himalayan participated in Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup and reached to the semi-finals, but their journey ended with a 2–1 defeat to ONGC FC.
