Signora Bovary
''Signora Bovary'' is an album of Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini. It was released in 1987 by EMI. The album "Signora Bovary" is a poetic variation of Gustave Flaubert's 1857 novel ''Madame Bovary''. "Culodritto" is dedicated to Guccini's daughter, Teresa, who was 9 at the time. "Van Loon" is about Guccini's father, who was a reader of the books of the 1930s science writer Hendrik Willem van Loon. The long suite "Keaton" was co-written by Claudio Lolli, who had found difficulties in releasing it: as Guccini liked it, he published in his new album after minor modification. The last stanzas deals with the American actor Buster Keaton. Francesco Guccini (, born 14 June 1940) is an Italian singer-songwriter, considered one of the most important '' cantautori'' of his time. During the five decades of his music career he has recorded 16 studio albums and collections, and 6 live albums. He is also a writer, having published autobiographic and noir novels, and a comics writer. Guccini also worked as actor, soundtrack composer, lexicographer and dialectologist. Guccini moved to Pàvana during World War II, then returned to Modena where he spent his teenage years and established his musical career. His debut album, '' Folk beat n. 1'', was released in 1967, but the first success was in 1972 with the album '' Radici''. He was harshly criticised after releasing ''Stanze di vita quotidiana'', and answered his critics with the song "L'avvelenata". Quasi (phonetics 'kwa - zee') is an American indie rock band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1993 by former spouses Sam Coomes (vocals, guitar, rocksichord, various keyboards, bass) and Janet Weiss (vocals and drums). Joanna Bolme performed and recorded with the group as a bassist from 2007 to 2011. History In 1990, Sam Coomes, Janet Weiss, and Brad Pedinov formed the band Motorgoat. The band released two self-released cassettes and one 7" single before dissolving in 1993. Coomes and Weiss then began recording as a duo in 1993 under the name Quasi. Hendrik Willem Van Loon
Hendrik Willem van Loon (January 14, 1882 – March 11, 1944) was a Dutch-American historian, journalist, and children's book author. Life He was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the son of Hendrik Willem van Loon and Elisabeth Johanna Hanken. He immigrated to the United States in 1902 to study at Harvard University and then Cornell University, where he received his AB in 1905. In 1906 he married Eliza Ingersoll Bowditch (1880–1955), daughter of a Harvard professor, by whom he had two sons, Henry Bowditch and Gerard Willem. Claudio Lolli (March 28, 1950 – August 17, 2018) was an Italian singer-songwriter, poet, writer and secondary school teacher. Career Claudio Lolli first came to public attention by Francesco Guccini to EMI Italiana, who produced his first LPs from 1972 to 1976. His albums are themed around political issues and ideas. For example, the album ''Un uomo in crisi'' follows the events of Antonio Gramsci's life. Ares Tavolazzi (born July 1948) is an Italian bass player and jazz musician born in Ferrara. Biography Tavolazzi studied cello and double bass in the Music School of Ferrara and began his career as bassist playing for Carmen Villani in a beat group, with his future collaborator, drummer Ellade Bandini. With the latter and Vince Tempera, he founded in 1969 a band called The Pleasure Machine, which released five singles in the three following years. The trio also participated in Francesco Guccini's '' L'isola non trovata'' and in '' Terra in bocca'' of I Giganti. In 1973, after The Pleasure Machine had disbanded, he became a member of the avantgarde band Area, replacing Patrick Djivas. He also frequented the jazz world in New York City.
