Sigitas Parulskis
Sigitas Parulskis (born February 10, 1965 in Obeliai, Rokiškis) is a Lithuanian poet, essayist, playwright and reviewer. In 1990 he graduated from Vilnius University, where he studied Lithuanian language and literature. He has written for notable journals and newspapers in Lithuania (''Literatūra ir menas'', ''Lietuvos aidas'', ''Lietuvos rytas'', ''Šiaurės Atėnai''). In addition to his writing, Parulskis lectures in creative writing at Vilnius University and writes articles for various newspapers, journals and internet websites. Writing career Parulskis has published 16 works including essays and poetry collections, plays, one novel and two screenplays. He is well-known for his ironic, sharp, critical and sometimes provocative writing style. Obeliai
Obeliai (; pl, Abele, yi, אבעל Abel) is a small city in the Rokiškis district municipality of Panevėžys County, Lithuania. At the foot of the town is one of the area's many lakes. The town of Obeliai is small and quite poor, due in no small part to the diversion of the railway; the station remains but is no longer in use. History The arms of the town were granted on August 8, 1993. Obeliai was first mentioned in the 16th century and received city rights in 1957. The town did not use any arms until the above arms were designed in 1993. The blue bend symbolises the Kriauna River, the silver field, the Lake Obeliai. The three apple blossoms on the bend are canting (sloping), "obelis" meaning apple tree. Apples used to be a major export of Obeliai, with many orchards surrounding the town. ''Literatūra ir menas'' () is a biweekly magazine of the Lithuanian Writers' Union. It has been published since July 21, 1946 in Vilnius. History ''Literatūra ir menas'' was first published as a monthly supplement to the newspaper '' Tarybų Lietuva'' (Soviet Lithuania). From 1942 to 1944, it was published in Moscow (the first two issues were titled ''Menas ir literatūra''), and from 1944 to 1945, it was published in Kaunas. ''Lietuvos aidas'' (literally: ''Echo of Lithuania'') is a daily newspaper in Lithuania. It was established on September 6, 1917 by Antanas Smetona, and became the semi-official voice of the newly formed Lithuanian government. When the government evacuated from Vilnius to the temporary capital, Kaunas, it ceased publication. The newspaper was revived in 1928 as the newspaper of the Lithuanian government and became the most popular newspaper in Lithuania. At its peak, it published three daily editions with combined circulation of 90,000 copies. World War II disrupted its publication. Baltic Assembly Prize For Literature, The Arts And Science
The Baltic Assembly Prize for Literature, the Arts and Science is an award given annually by the Baltic Assembly for achievements in three categories: literature, art and science. The prize is an annual award given to a citizen of Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania "for outstanding achievements" in three categories: literature, art and science. It was awarded for the first time in 1994 and consists of a statuette, a diploma and a sum of money, presently (2016) 5,000 euro. It is awarded during the formal session of the assembly. A joint jury consisting of three persons per prize make the decision on whom to award the prize.
