Sifiso Sonjica
Sifiso Musawenkosi Sonjica is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since 2016. He was formerly a businessman and a leader of the ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal. Political career Sonjica was formerly active in the ANC Youth League and served as the Provincial Chairperson of the league's KwaZulu-Natal branch in the early 2000s. In 2012, he contested unsuccessfully for election as Regional Chairperson of the ANC's eThekwini branch, running against Sibongiseni Dhlomo and Nhlakanipho Ntombela; Sonjica withdrew from the race, which was ultimately won by Dhlomo. In the 2014 general election, Sonjica stood as a candidate for election to the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature but was ranked 57th on the ANC's provincial party list and did not immediately secure election to a seat. KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature
The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature is the primary legislative body of the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. It is unicameral in its composition and elects the premier and the provincial cabinet from among the leading party or coalition members in the parliament. Powers The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature chooses the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, the head of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial executive. The legislature can impel the Premier to resign by passing a motion of no confidence. 2019 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa. Incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa led the ruling African National Congress, with the party attempting to retain its majority status and secure Ramaphosa a full term in office as president; his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, resigned from office on 14 February 2018. The Executive Council of KwaZulu-Natal is the cabinet of the executive branch of the provincial government in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. Peggy Nkonyeni
Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni (born 8 September 1961) is a South African politician and educator. A member of the African National Congress, she has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance in KwaZulu-Natal since 2022. In November 2004, she was appointed as the MEC for Health. Nkonyeni was elected as the speaker of the legislature after the 2009 general election. In 2013, Nkonyeni was made MEC for Education, a position she held until she was demoted from the executive council in 2016. She was sworn in as a member of the National Assembly of South Africa, the lower house of parliament, in February 2018. Michael Mabuyakhulu (born 31 March 1964) is a South African politician and former trade unionist who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature between 1994 and 2016. He also served for seventeen years in the KwaZulu-Natal Executive Council, most prominently as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development and Tourism from 2009 to 2016. Mabuyakhulu was the Provincial Treasurer of the ANC's KwaZulu-Natal branch from 1998 to 2008 and later served as the party's Deputy Provincial Chairperson from 2018 to 2021; he stepped aside from the latter position in May 2021 after he was charged with corruption. Nomakiki Roseline Majola is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since June 2016. She formerly served in the provincial legislature from 2009 to 2014.
