Sierra Teller Ornelas
Sierra Nizhoni Teller Ornelas (born 1981) (Navajo) is an American showrunner, screenwriter, filmmaker and weaver from Tucson, Arizona. She is one of three co-creators of the scripted NBC (Peacock) comedy series ''Rutherford Falls'', alongside Ed Helms and Mike Schur. Known for writing and production work on shows such as ''Brooklyn Nine-Nine'', '' Happy Endings'', ''Splitting Up Together'', and '' Superstore'', Ornelas has also written and contributed to ''This American Life'' and the ''New York Times''. In 2019 Ornelas signed a multi-year development deal with Universal Television, beginning with the Peacock sitcom ''Rutherford Falls''. Early life and education Ornelas is from Tucson, Arizona. The Navajo (; British English: Navaho; nv, Diné or ') are a Native American people of the Southwestern United States. With more than 399,494 enrolled tribal members , the Navajo Nation is the largest federally recognized tribe in the United States; additionally, the Navajo Nation has the largest reservation in the country. Barbara Teller Ornelas (born November 26, 1954) (Navajo people, Navajo) is an American weaver in Navajo traditions and techniques. She also is an instructor and author about this art. She has served overseas as a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department. A fifth-generation Navajo weaver, she exhibits her fine art textiles and traditions at home and abroad. Ancestry Ornelas was born for the Tabaaha and To-heedliinii clans (in English, Edgewater Clan and The Water Flows Together Clan) of the Navajo. She grew up at Two Grey Hills Trading Post in New Mexico, before later moving to Arizona. Learning from her mother, grandmothers and older sister, she is a fifth-generation Navajo weaver. The ''Navajo Times'' – known during the early 1980s as ''Navajo Times Today'' – is a newspaper created by the Navajo Tribal Council in 1959; in 1982 it was the first daily newspaper owned and published by a Native American Indian Nation. Now financially independent, it is published in English; its headquarters are located in Window Rock, Arizona.
