Charles Maximilian Siem (born 14 January 1986) is an English contemporary classical violinist. Life and career Charlie Siem was born in London, England, to Kristian Siem, a Norwegian businessman, and his South African-born wife. He has three sisters, all involved in arts: musician and composer Sasha Siem, visual artist and healing arts/yoga teacher Sophie Madeleine Siem, and artist and model Louisa Tatiana Kristianne Siem. Siem began the study of violin at age three when his interest was piqued upon hearing the cassettes his mother used to play for her children. He went on to study at Eton College and Girton College, Cambridge, and continued his violin studies with Itzhak Rashkovsky and Shlomo Mintz. He was the CEO of Premier Soccer League in South Africa between 2007 and 2010, and is currently Secretary-general of the Football Association of Norway. Early life and career He was born to parents Per and Ragnhild Siem on a small farm in Gjerdset in Rauma. His father was a farmer and his family was involved in sheep-raising and forestry. Ole Martin Siem (6 January 1915 – 3 November 1996) was a Norwegian businessperson and World War II resistance member. He was born in Horten as a son of naval commander Ole Siem (1882–1979) and Marie Augusta Ursin Holm (1888–1961). The family moved to Tromsø, where Siem finished secondary education in 1933. He took his education in shipping engineering at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, graduating in 1938. He also worked one year at Trondhjems Mekaniske Verksted. In February 1939 he married Inger Aagaard (1916-2012). His sister married diplomat Thore Boye, a son of Thorvald Boye, in 1945. When World War II reached Norway with the Nazi German invasion, Siem fought for his country in the Battle of Hegra Fortress. Mary Alice Siem was a student at the University of California, Berkeley when she became involved in 1973 with a prisoner outreach program at Vacaville Prison. She became the girlfriend of Thero Wheeler, an inmate who escaped in August 1973. He was a founding member of the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), an extremist group based in Oakland that was classified as terrorist by law enforcement. It was known for murders, armed robberies and the kidnapping of heiress Patty Hearst after Wheeler and Siem left the group in October 1973. Vacaville Prison and Symbionese Liberation Army Siem participated in the prisoner outreach program organized for student volunteers by Berkeley professor Colston Westbrook at Vacaville Prison and other sites. Ole Siem (11 January 1882 – 1979) was a Norwegian naval officer, businessman and politician. Personal life Siem was born in Trondheim to Martin Olsen Siem and Gjertrud Christlock. He married Marie Augusta Ursin Holm in 1912, and was the father of Martin Siem. Career Siem took actively part in local politics, and was elected to the municipal council in Horten (1925–1928), Tromsø (1931–1934) and Hadsel (1937–1940). He was director of Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap from 1929 to 1934, and of Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab from 1936 to 1950. During the Battles of Narvik in 1940 he served with the 6th Division, as head of the sea transport. During the German occupation of Norway he was among the resistance pioneers in Northern Norway.
