Siege Of Chernihiv
The siege of Chernihiv was a military engagement in the city of Chernihiv, in Chernihiv Oblast in the north of Ukraine. It began on 24 February 2022, as part of the northeastern Ukraine offensive, during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 4 April 2022, Ukrainian authorities stated that the Russian military had left Chernihiv Oblast. Initial battle On 24 February 2022, at 03:27 EET (UTC+2), a captain and a corporal from the Russian 11th Guards Air Assault Brigade surrendered to elements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ZSU) near Chernihiv. On the same day, Ukraine claimed a reconnaissance platoon of the Russian 74th Motorized Rifle Brigade had surrendered. Five hours later, the Ukrainian military repelled a Russian attack in Chernihiv and seized Russian equipment and documents. Northeastern Ukraine Offensive
The northeastern Ukraine campaign was a theatre of operation from 24 February to 8 April 2022 in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine for control of two provinces (oblasts) in Ukraine — Chernihiv Oblast and Sumy Oblast. On 4 April 2022, Ukrainian authorities said that Russian troops had mostly withdrawn from Sumy Oblast and no longer occupied any towns or villages in the area. Later that evening Ukrainian authorities claimed that Russian forces had withdrawn from Chernihiv Oblast, which was confirmed by the Pentagon by 6 April. In addition, it took place from February 24th to May 14th in Kharkiv Oblast. On 14 May, the ISW reported that: “Ukraine thus appears to have won the battle of Kharkiv.” The Mayor of Kharkiv said to the BBC: "There was no shelling in the city for the last five days. Sedniv
Sedniv (Ukrainian: Седнів) is a small urban-type settlement in Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine. It is located in Chernihiv Raion, hosting the administration of Sedniv settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Sedniv is famous for being the hometown of the Lyzohub family of Cossacks. The population of Sedniv suffered from Holodomor, causing it to lose its township in 1932. Sedniv was restored to a town in 1959. Sedniv is located where the Ruthenian city of Snovsk used to be before it was destroyed by the Tatars in 1239. It is unknown when the town changed its name. In 1648-1781 it was a district (sotnia) seat of the Chernihiv region (polk).
