Sidney Frederic Harmer
Sir Sidney Frederic Harmer, KBE, FRS (9 March 1862 – 22 October 1950) was a British zoologist. He was President of the Linnean Society 1927–1931 and was awarded the Linnean Medal in 1934. Sidney Harmer was Superintendent of the Cambridge University Museum of Zoology from 1892–1908, Keeper of Zoology at the Natural History Museum from 1909 to 1921 and director of the Museum from 1919 to 1927. His research library is held in thNational Marine Biological Libraryat the Marine Biological Association in Plymouth. He was made KBE in the 1920 civilian war honours. He was the father of Russell Harmer, the gold-medal winning British sailor, and great uncle of the actress and writer Juliet Harmer, best known for her role in the 1960s TV series ''Adam Adamant Lives!''. Knight Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Juliet Harmer
Juliet Linda Harmer (born 11 May 1941) is an English artist, children's author and actress who was best known in the role of Georgina Jones in the BBC TV series ''Adam Adamant Lives!'' (1966–67). Early career Juliet Harmer trained as a Primary school teacher specialising in Art. After leaving college, she taught for two years before becoming a presenter in BBC schools television. She returned to painting and working with children when her first daughter was born, and she moved to the Cotswolds in 1970. Harmer had originally wanted to become a botanist; her great uncle, Sir Sidney Frederic Harmer, had been the director of the Natural History Museum in London, and her father and grandfather, both surgeons, had encouraged her early interest in Natural History. Richard Lydekker
Richard Lydekker (; 25 July 1849 – 16 April 1915) was an English naturalist, geologist and writer of numerous books on natural history. Biography Richard Lydekker was born at Tavistock Square in London. His father was Gerard Wolfe Lydekker, a barrister-at-law with Dutch ancestry. The family moved to Harpenden Lodge soon after Richard's birth. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took a first-class in the Natural Science tripos (1872). In 1874 he joined the Geological Survey of India and made studies of the vertebrate palaeontology of northern India (especially Kashmir). He remained in this post until the death of his father in 1881. His main work in India was on the Siwalik palaeofauna; it was published in ''Palaeontologia Indica''. He was responsible for the cataloguing of the fossil mammals, reptiles, and birds in the Natural History Museum (10 vols., 1891). Sir Arthur Everett Shipley Order of the British Empire, GBE Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS (10 March 1861 – 22 September 1927) was an England, English zoologist and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. Biography Shipley was born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey on 10 March 1861. He was brought up in Datchet, Buckinghamshire (now Berkshire), and educated at University College School. He enrolled at St Bartholomew's Hospital as a medical student in 1879, but in the following year transferred to Christ's College, Cambridge to read natural sciences, specialising in zoology. Shipley particularly specialised in the study of parasitic worms, publishing nearly fifty papers on them and leading to his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1904. The series was created and produced by several alumni from ''Doctor Who''. Russell Harmer
Captain Russell Thomas Harmer (5 November 1896 – 31 October 1940) was a British sailor who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. He was the son of Sidney Frederic Harmer, the British zoologist. He was educated at Uppingham School and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. In 1915 he joined the Royal Corps of Signals. During World War 1, he was wounded in action and reached the rank of Captain. Post-war, he joined the family business selling wholesale clothing. In 1936 he was one of the four crew members of the British boat ''Lalage'' which won the gold medal in the 6 metre class. All four were members of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.
