Sidekicks (album)
''Sidekicks'' (also known as ''Rainbow Carousel'') is an album by Tom Fogerty and Randy Oda (who previously worked together in the rock band Ruby). The album was recorded in 1988 and released in 1992 on Fantasy Records, two years after Fogerty's death in 1990. Due to its posthumous release, ''Sidekicks'' stands as Fogerty's final album. Background During spring 1988, Fogerty and Oda reunited to work on new material for the album that would become ''Sidekicks''. Recorded at Studio D at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, additional overdubs were recorded at Chaton Recording in Scottsdale. The project saw Fogerty's son Jeff and Oda's brother Kevin on bass and drums respectively. After completing half of the album, Fogerty and Oda agreed to return to the studio at a later date so that Fogerty could spend more time with his newly-born daughter. Tom Fogerty
Thomas Richard Fogerty (November 9, 1941 – September 6, 1990) was an American musician, best known as the rhythm guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Biography Tom Fogerty was born in Berkeley, California, United States. He began singing rock and roll in high school. He and his younger brother, John, had separate groups. Tom's band, Spider Webb and the Insects (which featured Jeremy Levine of the Seeds), signed a recording contract with Del-Fi Records but broke up in 1959 before releasing any records. The Blue Velvets—a group led by John—began backing Tom. Eventually Tom joined the band, and the group recorded three singles (with Tom on lead vocals) for Orchestra Records in 1961 and 1962. Swamp Rock
Swamp rock is a genre of rock music that originated in the mid-1960s as a fusion of rockabilly and soul music with swamp blues, country music and funk. The genre originated in Louisiana by artists such as Tony Joe White, but was subsequently popularized by California band Creedence Clearwater Revival. Characteristics Swamp rock fuses rockabilly and soul music with swamp blues, country music and funk. Swamp blues provided swamp rock with its defining guitar sound, which was low toned and often reverberated. Randy Oda (born 1953) is a composer and musician who performed with Tom Fogerty and the band Ruby (Ruby album), Ruby, recording the albums ''Ruby (Ruby album), Ruby'', ''Rock & Roll Madness'' and ''Sidekicks (album), Sidekicks''. He composed the 1982 hit song, "Think I'm in Love (Eddie Money song), Think I'm in Love", which Arnold Schwarzenegger also used on an exercise video. Ruby was an American rock band that between 1976 and 1978 recorded two albums, ''Ruby (Ruby album), Ruby'' and ''Rock & Roll Madness''. In 1984, the compilation ''Precious Gems'' (which was credited to Tom Fogerty + Ruby) was released. Sloop John B
"Sloop John B" (originally published as "The John B. Sails") is a Bahamian folk song from Nassau. A transcription by Richard Le Gallienne was published in 1916, and a version was included in Carl Sandburg's ''The American Songbag'' in 1927. Since the early 1950s there have been many recordings of the song with variant titles including "I Want to Go Home" and "Wreck of the John B". In 1966, the Beach Boys recorded a folk rock adaptation that was produced and arranged by their ''de facto'' leader, Brian Wilson. Released as the second single from their album ''Pet Sounds'', the record peaked at number three in the U.S., number two in the UK, and topped the charts in several other countries.
