Sidek Brothers
The Sidek badminton family is a Malaysian family with a significant history within professional badminton. The patriarch of the family was an avid badminton fan, Sidek Abdullah Kamar (1936–2005), who himself was a former player turned senior coach. He started to train his sons from an early age at their house in Banting. As soon as his sons were spotted by Khoo Teng Yuen, a BAM coach, he transferred them to a prestigious secondary school known as Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur, where he (Khoo) was based. The training ultimately culminated in regaining the Thomas Cup in 1992 after a lapse of 25 years. The five Sidek brothers, who were also world-class players, began their run of success in the early 1980s. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Misbun Ramdan Misbun
Misbun Ramdan bin Mohmed Misbun (born 1 March 1991) is a Malaysian professional badminton player. He is the son of former Malaysian international badminton player Misbun Sidek. Career Misbun Ramdan won his first local title by upsetting Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, 21–18, 21–18 in the men’s singles final of the 2012 Pahang Open. In the same year, he won his first national title by defeating Chong Wei Feng to become the new national champion. In January 2013, Ramdan left Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to train under his father, Misbun Sidek. In April 2014, Ramdan was invited by BAM for the selection trials of Thomas Cup. At the selection trial, he lost 21–19, 21–15 to Goh Soon Huat. In 2015, Ramdan suffered an Achilles heel rupture that kept him from competing for almost 2 years. Badminton At The 1992 Summer Olympics
Badminton had its debut as an official medal sport at the 1992 Summer Olympics. It was held from 28 July to 4 August 1992. Four events were held in the first competition of the sport: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, and women's doubles. Badminton was contested in the Pavelló de la Mar Bella. 36 nations entered competitors, with a total of 177 entrants. Asian nations won fifteen of the sixteen medals, with their dominance being broken only by Denmark's bronze medal in the men's singles. The tournament was single-elimination. Matches consisted of three sets, with sets being to 15 except in women's singles, where sets were to 11. No playoffs were contested for semi-final losers, meaning that two bronze medals were awarded in each event. BWF World Championships
The BWF World Championships, formerly known as IBF World Championships, and also known as the World Badminton Championships, is a badminton tournament sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament is one of the most prestigious in badminton, offering the most ranking points, together with the Summer Olympics badminton tournaments which was first introduced in 1992. The winners of this tournament are also crowned as "World Champions" of the sport, and are awarded a gold medal. The tournament started in 1977 and was held once every three years until 1983.
