It was written by Lynsey de Paul and Barry Blue in 1975''Record Mirror'', p. 3, 23 August 1975 at the invitation of the film's writer and producer Bruce Beresford, and has a doo-wop, retro-style style. The song is performed by the male-female duo "Twogether", (according to some sources Twogether is Stephanie de Sykes who plays Julia in the film and Billy Boyle who plays Gary). Side By Side (1975 Film)
''Side by Side'' is a 1975 pop comedy film, directed by Bruce Beresford. It tells the story of two rival nightclub owners played by Terry-Thomas and Billy Boyle. The cast also includes Barry Humphries, Stephanie de Sykes, Frank Thornton and many contemporary pop artists such as The Rubettes, Mud and Kenny. Beresford described the film as "awful" and said it had "the worst script I've ever read". Plot Set in the fictitious English borough of Sludgely, the film centres on two rival nightclubs, located side by side. The decrepit Golden Nugget, which features strip shows and music hall variety turns, is run by Max Nugget (Terry-Thomas), assisted by his hypochondriac nephew Rodney (Barry Humphries), while Sound City is a pop music club, run by Gary (Billy Boyle). Barry Blue (born Barry Ian Green, 4 December 1950) is an English singer, producer, and songwriter. As an artist, he is best known for his hit songs "Dancin' (on a Saturday Night)" and "Do You Wanna Dance" (both 1973). Blue has also been a prolific songwriter and producer for many artists, and has had over forty worldwide hits, including Andrea Bocelli, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, The Saturdays, The Wanted, and Pixie Lott. Bruce Beresford (; born 16 August 1940) is an Australian film director who has made more than 30 feature films over a 50-year career, both locally and internationally in the United States. Beresford's notable films he has directed include ''Breaker Morant'' (1980), ''Tender Mercies'' (1983), ''Crimes of the Heart'' (1986) and the multiple Academy Award winning ''Driving Miss Daisy'' (1989). GTO Records was a British record label which released many hits during the 1970s. It ran from 1974 to 1981 and mainly concentrated on pop music and disco. The acronym represented the Gem Toby Organization. Background The record label was co-founded by Bell Records UK's Dick Leahy and Gem Records's Laurence Myers in 1974, after Myers had set up GTO Films and Arcade Records in the period between 1972 to 1974. The first GTO release - on 4 July 1974 - was the single "Up in a Puff of Smoke" by Polly Brown, and the label's focus would remain on pop and disco acts such as Billy Ocean, The Dooleys and Heatwave, and released Donna Summer's albums in the UK, all of which proved to be successful.
