''Siddhartha'' is an opera-ballet by Per Nørgård to a libretto by Ole Sarvig. Written 1974-79 it was premiered at the Royal Opera in Stockholm in 1983. Per Nørgård
Per Nørgård (; born 13 July 1932) is a Danish composer and music theorist. Though his style has varied considerably throughout his career, his music has often included repeatedly evolving melodies—such as the infinity series—in the vein of Jean Sibelius, and a perspicuous focus on lyricism. Reflecting on this, the composer Julian Anderson described his style as "one of the most personal in contemporary music". Nørgård has received several awards, including the 2016 Ernst von Siemens Music Prize. Life and career Per Nørgård was born in Gentofte, Denmark in 1932. He studied with Vagn Holmboe privately at age 17, and then formally at Royal Danish Academy of Music, Copenhagen, with Holmboe, Harald Høffding and Herman David Koppel. From 1956 to 1957, he subsequently studied in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, who had taught many leading composers of the time. Ole Sarvig
Ole Sarvig ( Danish pronunciation:) (1921 in Copenhagen – 1981 in Copenhagen) was a Danish author and poet, known for his participation in the literary journal ''heretica''. In 1967 he received the grand prize of the Danish Academy. In 2004 his 1943 work ''Regnmaaleren'' was included in the Danish Culture Canon. He was a friend and mentor to the poet Michael Strunge Michael Strunge Jensen (19 June 1958 – 9 March 1986) was a Denmark, Danish poet. He is regarded as perhaps the most influential Danish postmodern poet, and his works are among the most studied poems in Denmark. Jan Betrand Latham-Koenig, (born 1953) is a British conductor. He was born in England, coming from French, Danish and Polish origins. He attended Highgate School and then studied at the Royal College of Music in London before he founded the Koenig Ensemble in 1976 and began his career as a concert conductor with the BBC, in 1981 and winning the Gulbenkian Fellowship. He made his debut with '' Macbeth'' at the Vienna State Opera in 1988 and was appointed its permanent guest conductor in 1991. Opera is a form of theatre in which music is a fundamental component and dramatic roles are taken by singers.
