Sid Smith (American Football)
Sidney Ercil Smith (born July 6, 1948) is a former American football offensive lineman who played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL). Smith was drafted by the Chiefs in the first round of the 1970 NFL Draft, the team's first pick since their alignment to the NFL. Center (American Football)
Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost lineman of the offensive line on a football team's offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. The importance of centers for a football team has increased, due to the re-emergence of 3–4 defenses. According to Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, "you need to have somebody who can neutralize that nose tackle. If you don't, everything can get screwed up. The 1970 National Football League Draft was the 35th National Football League Draft and the first of the league's modern era, following the merger of the National Football League with the American Football League.
