Sicilian Senior Open
The Sicilian Senior Open was a men's senior (over 50) professional golf tournament on the European Senior Tour. It was held just once, in October 2010, at the Il Picciolo Golf Club, Castiglione di Sicilia, on the north-east part of Sicily, Italy. The winner was Domingo Hospital who won the first prize of €37,500 out of total prize-money of €250,000, after a playoff with Horacio Carbonetti. Castiglione di Sicilia ( Sicilian: ''Castigghiuni di Sicilia'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Catania in Sicily, southern Italy. European Senior Tour
The Legends Tour is the current branding of the European Senior Tour, a professional tour for male golfers aged 50 and over, run by the PGA European Tour. The tour was branded as the Staysure Tour for the 2018 and 2019 seasons after UK-based insurance company Staysure became the first-ever title sponsors of the senior tour in December 2017. The tour was relaunched as the Legends Tour in 2020, after Ryan Howsam, founder and owner of Staysure, took majority ownership in a joint venture with the European Tour. History The Tour was founded in 1992 after calls from 60 leading professionals five years after the first Senior Open Championship in 1987. Horacio Carbonetti
Horacio Carbonetti (born 17 November 1947) is an Argentine professional golfer. He is the brother of golfer Luis Carbonetti. Carbonetti was born in Río Cuarto, Córdoba. He won multiple amateur tournaments, mostly in Argentina. In 1976, he lost by playoff the Simon Bolivar Cup Professional Championship in Venezuela. He turned professional in 1977. In his debut tournament as a professional, Carbonetti was second at the Metropolitan Open behind Florentino Molina in 1977. In 1980, he shot a 64 in the second round of The Open Championship, at Muirfield, setting a new course record. He won the Argentine Tour Order of Merit in 1980 and the Cordoba Tour Order of Merit in 2001. He played on the European Tour from 1978 to 1981. Domingo Hospital
Domingo Hospital (born 20 March 1958) is a Spanish professional golfer. Hospital was born in Barcelona. He turned professional in 1982, but spent most of that decade not playing tournament golf, but instead teaching in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, while sustaining a parallel career as an airline pilot. In the early 1990s he devoted himself to tournament play, and became the European Tour's then-oldest rookie when he came through qualifying school in 1992. Hospital subsequently played on the tour full-time until 2001. His best result came in his debut season, when he finished joint runner-up at the Madrid Open behind Des Smyth, a result which retained his card in his final event of the year. However, his most consistent season was 1996, when he twice finished third and ended 37th on the Order of Merit.
