Sivasagar (Pron: or ) ("the sea of Shiva"), is a city in and headquarters of the Sivasagar district, Assam. Sivasagar is situated about 360 kilometers (224 mi) northeast of Guwahati. It is well known for its Ahom palaces and monuments. Sivasagar is an important centre for tea and oil industries today. Sivasagar is a part of Jorhat (Lok Sabha constituency). Akhil Gogoi is the current MLA of Sibsagar (Vidhan Sabha constituency). History Sivasagar, formerly known as Rangpur, was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom from 1699 to 1788. The Ahoms ruled Assam for six centuries until their kingdom fell to the Burmese in 1819 and their ruling class was all but wiped out. During the reign Gaurinath Singha a battle was fought against the Moamariya rebels on the vicinity of the Sivasagar tank. Rang Ghar
The Rang Ghar (), ( Assamese: ৰংঘৰ, ''rong ghor'' meaning "House of Entertainment") is a two-storeyed building which once served as the royal sports-pavilion where Ahom kings and nobles were spectators at games like buffalo fights and other sports at Rupahi Pathar (''pathar'' meaning "field" in Assamese) - particularly during the Rongali Bihu festival in the Ahom capital of Rangpur. It is away from the center of Sivasagar Town. Situated by the side of the Assam Trunk Road, it lies to the northeast of the Rangpur Palace, a seven-storied royal complex comprising the Talatal Ghar and the Kareng Ghar. History Said to be one of the oldest surviving amphitheaters in Asia, the building was first constructed during the reign of Swargadeo Rudra Singha with bamboo and wood. Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta (Assamese: ভাস্কৰ জ্যোতি মহন্ত) is a 1988 batch (41RR) IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre. Sibsagar College
Sibsagar College, Joysagar, is a college offering graduate and postgraduate courses affiliated with Dibrugarh University. The college is situated at the eastern bank of Joysagar Tank and is approximately 5 km southwest of Sivasagar town. In 1947, Padmadhar Chaliha founded the college and his son, Paragdhar Chaliha, was the chief architect. Simaluguri Junction Railway Station
Simaluguri Junction railway station is a railway station on the Lumding–Dibrugarh section. It is located in Sivasagar in the Indian state of Assam. Its code is SLGR. It serves Simaluguri town. The station consists of three platforms. Simaluguri Junction is the main railway station in the Sivasagar district of Assam. History The station lies on Amguri-Simaluguri section on West side, Simaluguri-Dibrugarh section in North and Simaluguri-Sripuriagaon section in East. All this lines comes under Lumding–Dibrugarh section. Simaluguri-Naginimora section is Gauge Conversion once completed it connect Sibsagar with Nagaland.
