Shyampukur
Shyampukur is a neighbourhood of North Kolkata, in Kolkata district in the Indian States and territories of India, state of West Bengal. As a neighbourhood, it covers a small area but its importance is primarily because of the police station. Etymology Shyampukur, like its neighbour Shyambazar, is likely to have been named in honour of Shyam Rai (or Gobinda), the attendant of the goddess Kali, the household deity of the Basaks(বসাক), who with the Sett (surname), Setts(শেঠ) were amongst the first to have settled in Sutanuti, after having cleared the jungles. Chitpur
Chitpur (or Chitpore) is a neighbourhood in North Kolkata in Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Sometimes, the entire area along Chitpur Road is referred to as Chitpur, although the various localities have distinctive names. History Chitpur has existed for at least 400 years. It received its name from the goddess Chitteswari, who had a splendid temple here erected by Gobindram Mitter, where human sacrifices used to be offered. The lofty dome of the temple, which was known as Nabarutna or the shrine of nine jewels, fell during the earthquake of 1737, and it is now in ruins. According to another source, the area was earlier named Chitrapur. It is referred to in Bipradas Pipilai's poem ''Manasamangal'' in 1495, but it could be a later interpolation. According to it, Chitpur was home to Chakrapani, Commander-in-Chief of the Nawab of Bengal's army, and had a flourishing colony of artists. Jessore Road
Jessore Road is a road connecting Shyambazar through Dum Dum, both neighbourhoods in Kolkata, India, to Jessore in Bangladesh. While the Dum Dum-Barasat sector is now part of NH 12, the Barasat-Petrapole sector is now part of NH 112. It continues in Bangladesh as N706 from Benapole to Jessore. The road acts as a major link between places in and around Kolkata, especially Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and Barasat. The road meets commuter (suburban) rail link at Barasat Junction railway station. Metro stations on this road include Shyambazar and Belgachia. The ''Subhas Chandra Bose'' statue located in Shyambazar five point crossing is one of the most important statues and landmarks in Kolkata.
