Shuya, Ivanovo Oblast
Shuya ( rus, Шу́я, p=ˈʂujə) is the third largest town in Ivanovo Oblast, Russia; located on the Teza River. Population: History The first record of Shuya is dated by 1393. Since 1403, the area was held by a branch of the House of Suzdal, which got their name "Shuysky" after the town. In 1539, the town was sacked by Safa Giray of Kazan. In 1566, it was taken by Ivan the Terrible as his personal property into Oprichnina. In 1722, the town was visited by Peter the Great, who launched textile manufacturing there. Town status was granted to it in 1778. By the 19th century, Shuya was developed into a major flax-processing center, although it has been since superseded in importance by the neighboring town of Ivanovo. The mass unrest was directed against the Tsar, nobility, and ruling class. It included worker strikes, peasant unrest, and military mutinies. In response to the public pressure, Tsar Nicholas II enacted some constitutional reform (namely the October Manifesto). This took the form of establishing the State Duma, the multi-party system, and the Russian Constitution of 1906. Mikhail Vasilyevich Frunze (russian: Михаил Васильевич Фрунзе; ro, Mihail Frunză; 2 February 1885 – 31 October 1925) was a Bolshevik leader during and just prior to the Russian Revolution of 1917. Born in the modern-day Kyrgyz Republic, he became active with the Bolsheviks and rose to the rank of a major Red Army commander in the Russian Civil War of 1917–1918. Feodor Vassilyev
Feodor Vassilyev (russian: Фёдор Васильев, older spelling: Ѳеодоръ Васильевъ) (c. 1707 1782) was a peasant from Shuya, Russia. His first wife is said to have lived to be 76, and between 1725 and 1765, have had 69 children (16 pairs of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and 4 sets of quadruplets); 67 of them survived infancy with the loss of one set of twins: the record for most children born to a single woman. However, their names, dates of birth, and dates of death are all unknown. Vassilyev said he also had 18 children with his second wife (6 pairs of twins and 2 sets of triplets), making him allegedly a father of 87 children in total. Nikolo-Shartomsky Monastery
The Shartoma Monastery of St. Nicholas (Николо-Шартомский монастырь, ''Nikolo-Shartomsky Monastery'') is a Russian Orthodox monastery in the village of Vvedenyo near Shuya in the Ivanovo Region of Russia. It takes its name from the small Shartoma (or Shakhma) river. It is the largest monastery in the region. The monastery has been known since the mid-15th century.
