Shtil (Calm)
"Shtil" (russian: Штиль, lit. "Calm") is a song by Russian heavy metal band Aria from their 2001 album ''Chimera'' and their 2002 EP ''Calm''. History "Shtil" was originally recorded for Aria's ''Chimera'' album in 2001. It was recorded like a duet between Valery Kipelov and Udo Dirkschneider. The song is based on Jack London's short story " Francis Spaight" and tells of a ship's crew that is lost at sea and forced into cannibalism to prevent starvation. A cover version of the song, titled "Schtiel", was recorded as a tribute to Harley-Davidson by Till Lindemann and Richard Kruspe in 2003. Although it was not the first Soviet band to play heavy music, Aria was the first to break through to mainstream media and commercial success. ''Mutter'' (; English: "Mother") is the third studio album by German Neue Deutsche Härte band Rammstein. It was released on 2 April 2001 through Motor and Universal Music. The album's cover image is a photograph of a dead fetus, which was taken by Daniel & Geo Fuchs. The album has yielded six singles which, to date, are the most released from any Rammstein album. Writing and recording From September to December 1999, the band rented the house Weimar in Heiligendamm on the Baltic Sea for pre-production. The sound recordings took place in May and June 2000 at Studio Miraval in southern France. Already over Christmas 2000, Rammstein released the song "Links 2 3 4" on their website for download. Rammstein (, "ramming stone") is a German Neue Deutsche Härte band formed in Berlin in 1994. The band's lineup—consisting of lead vocalist Till Lindemann, lead guitarist Richard Kruspe, rhythm guitarist Paul Landers, bassist Oliver Riedel, drummer Christoph Schneider, and keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz—has remained unchanged throughout their history, along with their approach to songwriting, which consists of Lindemann writing and singing the lyrics over instrumental pieces the rest of the band has completed beforehand. Neue Deutsche Härte (; "new German hardness"), sometimes abbreviated as NDH, is a subgenre of rock music that developed in Germany and Austria during the early-to-mid 1990s and during the early 2000s.
